Which brand of diaper is best to start out with? I realize that it depends on the baby for the most part, but for those first few weeks I'd like some opinions on which are best. I don't even remember which we used for DS, but I'm pretty sure it was some German store brand. TIA!!
Re: Talk to me about diapers (disposable)
I don't like Pampers because they have a weird net thing inside that sticks to their behind and they have a scent. It's a nice smell but smell = chemicals, which I don't need any more of in a disposable diaper. Of course I finished using the 2 free packs from the hospital because they were "free"!
We mostly use Kirklands (Costco) Diapers but use Huggies as an alternative. Huggies NB since Costco has a size 1-2 that's a little too big at first. Then the sizing goes to 3 so with Abby we had to use Huggies size 2 for a little bit and I think we will with Emily too.
Target diapers were just OK. I tried the Munchkin brand from HEB when I had a coupon and those SUCKED. We had a lot of back blowouts.
The O'Baby Blog
we had the huggies with pooh bear for newborns he never had a problem with those. we mostly cloth now though with the natures choice (natrual choice whatever the ones witht he ducks and ponds) but we mail order those.
DH's employees surprised him at work with a box of Pampers Swaddlers sz 1 last week. I don't think I ever used Huggies with DS, simply because I don't think they carried them at the time in Germany. I'll have to give them a try. Kirklands sound promising. Are Kirkland wipes just as good? I was in Costco the other day and saw this huge jumbo pack of wipes.
Thanks ladies!!
Kirklands wipes rock. I buy them 2 huge cases at a time! They work great for wiping down the kids table and countertops in a pinch too
Hint - a full packet of wipes is too big for the diaperbag. When I have about 1/2-1 inch of wipes left in the pack at home, I put it aside for throwing in the diaper bag! The little cases they sell for putting wipes in always left my wipes dried out.
That's good to know! Thanks Taytee!!!
I like to start with Pampers because in my experience they tend to work the best for the largest number of babies, and in the beginning the last thing I want to deal with is diaper issues. After that, for Leo I used Huggies for awhile and then eventually the Target brand. The Target Up and Up brand was really great and really cheap when Leo from when he was about...8 months to maybe 15 months, then we ended up switching back to Huggies.
For Charlie we tried the Target brand and it was a total disaster. Every time he pooped it blew out either the leg or back, which was very frustrating. Luvs have worked really well for him
We used the free ones from the hospital...but they smelled funny and I really didn't like them. The pampers swaddlers were good. We really liked the huggies newborns. Once Logan was big enough--we switched to Kirkland diapers. That's what we have been using--Kirkland...up until now since we are doing a part-time routine with cloth too. At night, we do use Pampers stay dry---Logan leaked sttn in Kirkland.
Ditto Taytee in the Kirkland wipes...we love them and they are a great deal.

We used Pampers Swaddlers at first because that's what they started us with at the hospital, plus we were given a lot of them at my shower. At about size 2, we started switching between Swaddlers and Huggies premium, depending on whichever was on sale.
Once he got into size 3's we started using the regular Pampers and Huggies-- again, going with whatever was on sale or whatever we had a coupon for. I couldn't tell the difference between either brand.
When he started wearing size 4, we started using Huggies overnights and for daytime we tried the Target brand. We've been happy with them ever since. I don't think they would have worked as well when he was younger because they are a bit stiff (which might account for some of the leakage PP's report.) My mother has a tendency to buy him more expensive diapers when she finds a coupon (plus she can't wrap her brain around the idea of her grand-baby in generic diapers.) But we always go back to the Target brand.
ETA: The only brand that's ever given us serious problems is Luvs. They have a heavier fragrance and they irritated his skin. He also leaked out of them pretty badly.
I think the smart thing to do is just to try different brands and see what works for your baby.
Yup. Love Swaddlers. Tried 2 different types of Huggies that were gifts/part of diaper cakes, and hated them.
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
Ditto. Did this for DD #1 and will do again for DD #2.
We've tried Huggies, HEB, and Target Up & Up diapers and didn't like any of them because they are so much stiffer compared to the softness of Pampers and Luvs.
