High-Risk Pregnancy

Experiencing feet swelling, Ugh! and a bit concern. Advice, pls

I am 32 wks now. Saw my OB this past Tues. She did U/S and all looks great change my due date to 5/13. I told her my feet seemed a bit swollen she took a look and told me it was minimal and that was normal. And yes it wasn't to bad but I did notice puffiness. But yesterday my left foot did swell what to me was very noticeable, my right foot is fine. I don't have cankles, but I notice the swelling is more then when I saw the Dr on Tues. I have really slim feet so I'm not sure if I should worry to much. I read in one of my pregnancy books that swelling is normal as long as your face and hands don't swell and after resting for a period of time or overnight the swelling goes down. Are any of you ladies experiencing the same? Any advice, suggestions? I'd really appreciate it. Should I call my OB? My swelling is only in my feet and in the morning after resting all night they are fine back to normal. I was told by a friend its because I am eating to much salt. I don't feel like I am, but can this be? Thanx in advance for your replies.

  • Even a little salt will increase your swelling at this point.  I am thankful we are not pregnant in the summer.  My friends that went through it then had horrendous swelling.  As long as you are not puffing up ever where it really is normal.  Frustrating, but normal.

  • Yes, I have been swelling more and more for weeks.  I am a nurse and have seen plenty of swollen feet but mine freak me out of course.  My doc says it is fine even though I can barely get my shoes on, or some I can't get on at all, so I am trying to relax.
  • Most pregnant women get swelling in their feet at sometime. It is a good sign that it gets better after you sleep at night. I WOULD be concerned however, if the left foot continues to swell more than the right or the left foot doesn't go down after sleeping...like the right one does. THAT unequal swelling can be a blood clot.  If it is just a slight difference between the two sides than don't worry, but if it is a significant difference than mention it to your OB again.
  • Thanks ladies for your replies. I really appreciate it. I'll definitely keep an eye on the difference of swelling in my feet. I had not thought of blood clot so thanks for bring it to my attention. So far today wasn't as bad as yesterday. Elevating my feet has helped a lot.
