Hospital Nurseries...Can you share any thoughts?

Hi Ladies,

My friend is a nurse practitioner. She is out of state and emailed me about hospitals in the surrounding area. When you delivered DD/DS, did nurse practioners take care of your little ones or was in outside pedi's coming in that were already established before you delivered? Wanted to get your thoughts. Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am only familiar with NWH. Can you share about your expereinces?

I delivered at Beverly Hospital and we picked a Pedi affiliated with them beforehand.  his office is literally across the parking lot from the hospital so he came in to check on him every day he was in the NICU ( he was 6wks early).   there was a special NICU Dr. of course, but I was happy that our own pedi was also on hand.  not sure how it works in the regular nursery.

We delivered at SSH. We had chosen a pedi beforehand, affiliated with the hospital.. a pedi from the office stopped by every morning to check on DD before we left.

pedi's will only visit LO in the hospital if they are affliated with that hospital, otherwise it is a pedi/hospitalist at that hospital who will follow till d/c, most pedis want to see bb within 48 hours of birth.
