Tell me more about SC vacations......

As I said, we are still undecided about where to go on our anniversary trip.I would really like to go on the cruise but that might not be a possibility, so SC is our next choice.

Charleston/Isle of Palms was top on our list but Outer Banks and Hilton Head have me intrigued.....

If you have been to all/any of these, which would you choose and for what reasons??

We really just want to be on/very near a the beach and we would like to be able to do a few things other than sit on the beach all day.

BTW, we would like to keep the cost of the trip low. Preferably under $1000 for the whole 4 night trip.

Thanks!!

**Edit** Just realized that Outer Banks is actually in NC. I know nothing about this area!! I need help, lol!!

  • Outer Banks is nice but can be really expensive in season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and expensive in the off season.  We were there in the off season (October) and paid $40 for lunch for DH and I at a basic place, nothing fancy, no drinks and that was without tip.

  • Well I live in SC and have been to all of those places except Outer Banks but I have been to other coastal areas of NC, so I have some good insight, I think.  I would definitely recommend Charleston & Isle of Palms over the other options.  Hilton Head is pretty, but I don't think there is really that much to do there besides shop (there are some outlets but no mall). Charleston has outlets, malls, and GREAT downtown shopping. It also has tons of historical type stuff and just general sightseeing.  The beaches are really nice too. Coastal NC is nice as well, but I'm not sure you will find as many things to do in the Outer Banks as you would in Charleston.

I'm always of the opinion that if you've never been to Charleston, you should go.  It's such a cool city; I've never heard of anybody regretting a visit there.

  • Ditto Charleston or IOP. The best beach to visit while there is Folly. You could even stay in Mount Pleasant and it'll be a little cheaper.

HHI is just a really upscale beach, but like Lori said, they don't have that much to do. And in April, it's going to be hit or miss for the water. In fact, it'll probably be too cold (water not weather).
