Anyone know anything about wills? (NBR)

Hello Ladies, I have a question:

My mom died about a year and a half ago. Her and my dad were married for 30 years. Since then, my dad has become very different and really pushed my sister and I away, even though we were very close before. He has become very centered on finding someone to marry again and starting dating 10 days after she died! After about 2 months, he met a lady and they got engaged 5 months later. I'm a little bit concerned because about a month later, they had my dad change his will. He told us if something happens to him (which unfortunately is quite likely as he had a serious heart condition and then gave him about 5 years, 6 years ago), that my sister and I would get a portion of his life insurance to split and everything else would go to her. He has about 2 million dollars in properties and investments. Half of this stuff is from my mom, obviously, and they worked hard their whole lives for these things. This kind of concerns me and I'm a little uncomfortable with all of it going to a woman he's know a year. She has 2 teenage daughters and she has been married 3 times. She seems like a nice enough person but I really haven't had too much of an opportunity to get to know her since this all happened so fast. He also said if something happened to her as well, everything would be split between us 4 kids.

Now I know nothing about legal wills or what's normal or what's not. I haven't said anything to him because I don't want him to think its about the money because its not. I'm just a little concerned. In your opinion, is this type of set up normal? Am I justified in being concerned? I would love for someone to tell me this is completely normal so I can stop worrying about it! I'm just completely ignorant about wills and such and was hoping someone could help me out. Thanks for the advice!

  • Firstly, really sorry about your mom.

From the info you provided, seemingly fair or not, your mom's "half" became your dad's so he can allocate his property/money however he would like in his will.
