cradle cap on the face??

So DD started breaking out with acne last week.  It was definitely just acne for a couple days, but then it started spreading and looking more like a rash.  I thought it could have been eczema, but wasn't sure.  So the crazy first time mom that I am called the pedi and I brought her in.  The NP said it was cradle cap and it can spread onto the face, especially around the ears and eyebrows.  She definitely has the rash in those places, but its allll over her face too.  She also had cradle cap on her scalp about 3-4 weeks ago that I was able to get rid of within a couple days.  She doesn't have any other signs of that and the rash on her face doesn't seem to look like what was on her scalp.  Anyone elses LO have this??

DS has cradle cap around his eyebrows. The skin is red with crusty skin on top. I just wash his face with soap and water and put lotion on after his bath.

  • My DS has this, too. He has it on his cheeks by his ear and his pedi said the same thing at his 2 month appt. She said to put Selsun Blue on it and then wash being careful not to get it in his eyes.

  • My LO has it on her forehead and eyebrows.  Sad
  • Yep, my LO had it real bad all over his entire face a few weeks ago.  My pedi recommended Head and Shoulders every couple of days, plus hydrocortizone cream 3 times a day.  It cleared up in a few days after I started those.

  • Has anyone been told to put vaseline on it?? The NP said to use that as it won't harm the baby if she swallows any of it or if it gets in her eyes...I'm skeptical...

  • DD had this really bad all over her face and neck right at 1 mo. We did a couple weeks of cortisone cream 2x/day per our pedi. It mostly went away. Now I just wash her face twice a day and put lotion on it.
  • Another term for cradle cap is Seborrheic dermatitis, a lot of adults get it as well. I thought my LO had baby acne because he was all pimply. We would just wash his face with water and it seemed to help a little. We had to stop using the baby lotion and the aveeno baby because it made it worse. Recently I had a medical emergency so my mom took him and after giving him a bath she put some lotion she uses on him and it seemed to clear his face right up. My husband still believed it was the washing that did it and since we still thought he had baby acne we didn't think anything of the lotion. Well yesterday we had to go in because LO has penile adheresions and the doctor told us it was seborrheic dermatitis, and jsut use an unscented lotion and it will clear itself up. FYI the lotion we use is St. Ives, and it apparently helps fairly quickly, of course it doesn't make it disappear entirely it comes back by morning.
