DD starting "daycare" next week...what do they need to know?

I'm drafting a "cheat sheet" for FIL since he's going to start watching H next week. So far, I have info about her feeding/sleep schedule, emergency contact #s (including the pedi), my insurance info, allergies (or lack thereof), BM storage/feeding info, cloth diapering instructions (though I think I'm gonna have to show him, too), instructions for administering Motrin and a few little tidbits about her (likes to be swaddled, needs to be held upright for 20 minutes after feeding due to her spit up issues, etc.). Am I missing anything?

  • That sounds like a great start. You will want to sign a release "I Sarah Smith, give my father in law, John smith, permission to make medical decisions for my daughter, Jenny smith.  " Along with prefered hospitals.

As a side note, is your pedi cool with Motrin?  Mine said no ibprufen until 6 mo.

    I meant Tylenol. Smile

  • does the release that pp mentioned need to be notarized?  I know when we take kids on trips for work, it has to be notarized to get medical attention asap.

How cool that your FIL is taking care of your DD!!  Not that my FIL would ever want to take care of a baby... but the idea totally makes me smile.

  • Sounds good.  I would include how long she sleeps at each nap and what you do to get her down.  Also - anything you use that helps comfort her - such as swing or bouncy or things like that.  Also - any activities like tummy time, etc that are good for him to do w/ her.

No idea how much info you want throughout the day, but maybe you could print up some little fill in the blank type sheets so he can easily let you know how long she slept, how much/what she ate, how her mood was that day, what medications she may have had and when.  Something like this or this.

That's a really good idea.  My caregiver kept a log for the first couple of months for us - we used it to develop a schedule for DS.  It really helped because now he's on a consistent schedule both during the week and on the weekend.

  • Our first caregiver did that for Meagan.  She would tell us what she ate, when she went to the bathroom, etc.  on little slips of paper.  I must have had a million of those things at one point.
