I love Elizabeth, and possibly Lizzie as a nickname when she is young. Not as much of a fan of Beth or Liz. Do you think Lizzie will most likely turn into Liz later? What are the odds that she would want to go by Elizabeth as an adult?
My grandmother's name is Elizabeth and she goes by Betty or Betts (but obviously an entirely different generation!). I love Elizabeth on it's own - I'm not really of either Liz or Beth. Lizzie is cute, but I do think it will probably morph into Liz when she's older.
I don't think anyone would automatically go to a nickname when they see Elizabeth. But if she decides to go with Liz, Lizzie, Libby, Beth later then that's here prerogative - it's her name! She may like it.

I think, more than likely, she will go by whatever version of the name she has gone by for most of her life. Of course, if she goes by Lizzy and then becomes a judge or something she may go by Liz or Elizabeth professionally, but would probably still be Lizzy casually.
I am Elizabeth that goes by Liz. I hated when people called me Lizzie growing up...HATED it then and still do. I very rarely use Elizabeth and only some of my immediate family call me Elizabeth. I like the name now more than i did when i was a kid, but I am much more a Liz than an Elizabeth, and I was certainly NEVER a Lizzie(yuck)
I know four Elizabeths who go by Elizabeth (three adults and one teen). One of the adults went as Betsy until she graduated college. I also know two who go by Liz. I guess it's personal preference, but I could see her going by Elizabeth as an adult.
On the other side of this debate, I'm a Bethany who was called Bethany all my youth, then switched to Beth. I just prefer it It's not because other people called me Beth. Your daughter may decide she loves Elizabeth for life, or switch to a nickname.
3 Elisabeth's in the family. One Lisa, one Betsy, one Liz- all adults a generation up from me. Lisa and Betsy have never had problems with people calling them Liz. Liz has never had problems with people calling her anything but Liz.
It's one of those names that has so incredibly many nicknames that if you want a specific nn or lack of you have to start young and be firm. We've picked Elisabeth for a little girl (Lisa was my MIL who passed way several years ago) and decided on Beth as a nn. Since we'll be introducing her as Beth I doubt we'd have any problems with people leaping to call her Liz... but it's a long name and people will ask what her nn is or simply shorten it however they like. Lizzie is very likely to be eventually shortened to Liz though. You could correct them but it'll ultimately be up to your child to force the issue once school starts.
Of course she could choose a new nn once she's older and we'd all just have to adjust. It's impossible to know what nn your child will want to go by as an adult.

All of the Elizabeth's I know who go by nicknames have only ever been called by said nicknames. And I know plenty that just go by Elizabeth, even if they had nn's when they were young.
My Elizabeth is going to be called Betsy, but if she chooses to be Elizabeth at some point, that is fine with me!
We've been tossing Elizabeth around as a possiblity for our little one as well, and I dont like Liz or Beth either. If we do its going to be spelled Elisabeth, so it can be shortened to Lisa.

You can't control nn that children friends will use in school, college, or nn that a child decides to go by as an adult.
My friend named her daughter Elizabeth and they call her Ellie. The other day Ellie thanked her mom for naming her Elizabeth because she loves the idea that she can "change" her name when ever she wants (Lisa, Liz, Beth, Elizabeth, etc...). She's 5 and already thinking about it.
If you want to call her Lizzy, call her Lizzy but don't expect that she will only go by that nn or that she won't rebrand herself Betsy or some other diminutive of Elizabeth when she is older.

Haha. I'm also an Elizabeth who goes by Liz, but I did start out as Lizzy. I renamed myself when I got older. I get somewhat embarrassed when fam or old friends call me Lizzy, but it's a cute name for a little girl.
As pp said, anyone named Elizabeth typically goes by whatever name they grew up with, whether that be their full name or a NN. I know several Elizabeths - 2 go by Elizabeth, 1 Liz, 1 Beth, 1 Betsy, 1 Libby.
DD is Elizabeth. So far, we have only called her by her full name. We agreed before she was born that, if we use a NN, it will be Eliza. Whenever anyone has tried to call her by a NN (which has only have 2 or 3 times), we correct them immediately.
Re: do you think Elizabeth would be called Liz or Beth?

I think Lizzie would probably turn into Liz.... But it's possible she would dislike Liz as well..
I know tons of Elizabeth's that strictly go by Liz, and NONE that go by elizabeth.,

I also think Libby is a cute nn for Elizabeth
One of my favorite things about the name Elizabeth are the nn possibilities...
Ellie
Eliza
Lizzie
Liz
Libby
Beth
Betty
Betsy.
With the Elizabeths I do know, a few go by their full name, and then there is one Libby, one Ellie, and one Betsy.

My cousin is Elizabeth (she's currently about 19-20). The family calls her (and has always called her) Elizabeth. She goes by Lizzie with her friends.
I have a friend who is an Elizabeth and she goes by Liz.
My cousin was Beth or Bethy growing up, but switched to Liz in college.

I know 4 Elizabeth/Elisabeth's: Betty, Liz, Beth, and Ellie (from oldest to youngest).
There are so many options with Elizabeth I think you can give whatever nickname you like best or what fits with your daughter's personality.
We're strongly considering this name. I love Elizabeth (it's my MN) but like "Izzy" as a nn.

My grandma was Elizabeth and she went by Libby or Lib.
Elizabeth is our #1 girl name and we're planning on calling her Ellie (possibly Libby or Izzy) as a nickname.
Liz/Lizzie.
I always thought it was weird when Elizabeths went by Beth/Betsy/Biz.
