Trying to Get Pregnant

Stocking Up

I guess this would be more of a survey for 1st timers. What do all think about Stocking Up on baby gear before your pregnant? I personally have been stocking up on something?s.. mostly maternity wear, some gender neutral outfits, a diaper bag and a boppy. I know some people think it will Jinx them but I am A Bargain shopper. Has anyone else bought things... if so what have you gotten? See Below at the list of items I have stocked up on so far:

Boppy Pillow: $10

Coach Diaper Bag: $150 (Normally $400)

Baby outfits ( Gender Natural... soo cute) 1.99 on sale at old navy ( They have the best sales)

Maternity Wear (dresses, tanks, shirts and pants) from 1.50 to 7.00 (Combination of Clearance racks on out of season wear at Target and Old Navy)

  • I'm not shopping in advance, but I will say that I would have bought that Coach bag too if I stumbled across it. That was a great deal!

  • I haven't, I assume I'll get a lot of baby gear and necessities from showers. And I don't have room to store it now anyway. I am saving money to purchase stuff when I actually need it.

If you're finding good deals and having the stuff around doesn't bother you, then go for it, looks like you have a good collection going!

  • I've picked up things here and there for our future kids.

We have a stocked library in the spare bedroom of children's books. H and I love reading and want to read to our babies so when we see a book we liked as children we get it.

I aslo have some receiving blankets that I got at a Carters outlet store last summer. They were too cute and cheap to pass up.

  • My resoning for not buying anything has less to do with jinxing myself and more to do with not wanting to see any of it. It would kill me to see all that baby related stuff for so long and not be pg. Just my opinion.

  • I almost posted this, but I have seen from previous posts that many people do not buy things in advance. I am not one of them!  Babiesrus clearance is currently open in another tab..lol

    I have a carrier $17 orig. 80. Dwell Studio 3 piece crib bedding $23 orig. 90+.

I also picked up a frame and  "Sunshine" art piece from target both totaled $5.

I just can't pass up a good sale. If it is 75% off or more I just have to do it! MH just looks and shakes his head.

So umm where did you find the boppy?? I've been searching..lol

  • I haven't bought anything.  I have won a few baby items when I was doing a lot of contests and have kept those but it isn't much.
  • I am fully stocked in HPTs :)  No baby gear yet.  My mind thinks of it as spending money on something imaginary.  So.....I buy my friends/relatives with babies cute things (and suspect I'll get some of it back when they're done with it)

  • why are you stocking up on maternity clothes?  You never know how you'll grow.   I didn't need to buy anything until around 25 weeks... and even then I bought some mat. jeans that were soooooo comfy in the store - but 2 weeks later I went on the GD diet and they actually ended up way too loose and fell down all the time.     (Whereas my CW is the opposite, she actually needs bigger mat. clothes than she bought).

I'd wait until you need them and know what size you will be.    There will always be clearance and sales (believe me, I am the queen of clearance shopping)

or even worse - you buy the clothes now but end up TTC'ing forever and put on the IF poundage (like me - I gained 25 pounds TTC'ing for 2 years)

  • I'm not worried about jinxing but I do think it's a bit foolish to buy the little stuff in advance. You won't necessarily have an easy time getting pregnant and even if they're on sale- summer outfits on a winter baby or winter outfits on a summer baby aren't going to be of much use. Same deal with maternity clothes. They'll go out of season or just out of style and you'll be left with a closet full of stuff you can't use. Plus for the stuff like boppies and baby clothes and diaper bags- people will want to have things to buy you for your shower. Don't rush out and snap up the good less expensive stuff because you're impatient :)

That said, I have a crib (like you we got it on a sale) and I'm addicted to buying stuffed animals for baby. Every time I see a good baby book- I tend to buy it. Timeless stuff that won't object sitting on a shelf if it takes us another 18 cycles to finally have our positive and stuff that won't impact people buying us gifts excessively.

I completley Agree with you... everyone grows differently. I am A nurse so I do know this to be true. However its not like extreme maternity Wear with panels and thigs. Mostly just tanks I got from target for 1.50 on Clearence. No big deal to me I wear my clothes on the bigger side anyway so if I cant wear it when I do become pregnant I can still wear it after just looks really long on me ... pants are just yoga pants I can wear whenever and dresses just look a little big. I never have any intention spending alot of money on Maternity clothes at all actually.

  • I don't count my chickens.
  • I've registered for somethings (without sharing the registry with anyone), but I honestly did that bc DH likes to look at stuff over and over again to see if he likes it, and I wanted his opinion.  I've only looked at furniture and some basic things like a breast pump and baby bath tubs.

I think that pricing things out is a good idea, but buying too much (or for me personally, anything) would not be the best idea.  Once I'm pregnant I'll have 8 to 8 1/2 months to shop, and at least then I'll have the hormone excuse when I buy something just because it is cute as opposed to useful!

  • if it makes you happy, go for it! but i would hold off on the baby gear though. they are always coming out with new and improved gear every year, and you don't want to miss out.

and i'm so jealous of your Coach Diaper Bag!

  • I dont really want to have thoes things in the house for a couple reasons. I think that it would be harder to get a BFN and see it and also if people came over.. I do have things in the house that my mom saved from when I was a child and has given me but to me its not the same.

Also, i think that this is part of becoming pregnant and being able to look and these items and buy.

Me and The DH go to Vegas all the time to see his Family, And there is a coach outlet there. Its great!!! They have New and old stuff there... his cousin got one of there brand new style wallets for 30 bucks. They usually have there stuff on sale like 50% off and then they give you like a 20% off coupon when you come in the store. They had like 2 different styles there and like 3 differnt color combos per style. I dont know if its the same way at all the coach outlets, I dont remember the one in California being the same way letting you use a coupon as well.

I am the same way I am sure we will get a lot of hand me downs. I def. don't go out of my way to buy things. I am not out going to BRU or anything?Just going to my normal shopping locations browsing for just things for everyday life and if I see something at an extremely great price buying and saving it. I guess I made it sound like I have a lot more than I do.. it all fits in the bag with lots of room to spare. (I mean all except the boppy) and is tucked away nicely in the back of our hall closet. I guess everyone is different.. I didn't think this topic was so controversial. I do appreciate everyone?s opinion. I hope didn?t offend anyone.

  • I've bought three items and only because they were on clearance for $2 for all three ;) If it works for ya, I don't see the issue.
  • I have only bought clothes, which were on clearance.  I have actually given away a few of the items to friends' babies and my nephew.
