Charlotte (a friend of mine who I haven't seen in 12 years named her baby this and I stomped my foot when I found out. I only talk to her once a year via email. Not fair!)
I liked Aaron but that's DH sister's ex-husband name so we couldn't use it. If we have another boy I don't think he'll have a name b/c we had so much issues trying to name DS. We have tons of girl names though.
My DH won't humor any serious name talk (we're not pg)... but he always tells people we'll name our first child Miroslav Podolski (sp??)
Miroslav and Podolski are the last names of (in his opinion) the two best Soccer strikers alive.
Miroslav Podolski will never be any name of any child of mine... and he knows it drives me crazy because people actually respond "ohhhh... that's nice" and I have to correct him.
I can tell you a name my DH loved that we will never use.
Ariel.
For a boy.
Yeah. VETO.
This is not weird at all in Spanish speaking cultures. But it's not pronounced like the Disney mermaid. It's pronounced Ah--dhee-el (with a pretty hard accent over the last "e", making it a short L sound. It's actually a pretty name for a boy in Spanish, but yeah, English not so much!
Our choices of boys names were all family names. We would still consider them if we ever had another boy.
Oliver
Charles (Or Charlie)
Jack (DH's niece already took this one)
William
We're kind of screwed on girls names, if we should ever need one. None of the family names for girls work for us because they are either too common or they're just really ugly names. So when we were looking for a girl's name, DH would do the "stripper" test. He'd repeat "(insert name of choice) to the main stage" in a DJ-like voice. If the name sounded like she might belong there, he'd veto it.
I would love to name a future daughter "Charlie", after my dad, but DH says it doesn't pass the DJ test.
I loved Eleanor/Elinor, Esme, and Beatrice, but Mike hated them. Meredith loved Molly, Melanie and Rosalie, but Mike vetoed Rosalie, and I didn't want to have a family where EVERYONE had an M name. That just seemed odd, since we're already Mike, McGee and Meredith.
Mike loved Charlotte, and I couldn't get past it rhyming with Harlot.
If we have another girl, we're leaning toward Anne Elizabeth after my mom and calling her Annie. I also love Sarah for a girl, but that's my sister's name.
We both love Lila, but my BFF is naming her daughter Lila in June, so that removes it from our list. She also took Noah off our list by having a boy before us.
I love Henry but Mike isn't sold on it yet. We picked Alexander William pretty easily, but other boy names we're considering are Henry, Thomas, Samuel, John, Everett, and James.

Charlotte would pass!!! Then you could call her Charlie. I love this combo!
DH really likes the name Paul, but I have bad associations with the name b/c it reminds me of my grandfather - with whom I had a difficult relationship - and my sister's AWFUL ex-FIL. I veto that one.
I know a lot of people think this name is awful, but DH and I would consider using the name Barney for a son. It's a family name on DH's side and I would also consider it an homage to a painter whose work I adore (Barnett Newman, who went by Barney).
We can't use Luke / Lucas or Jack because we have nephews with those names. We can't use Violet, a family name, because DH's little sister already claimed it and I wouldn't want to take it from her. Plus, my parents have a cat named Violet. I wish people would stop naming their pets cute human names!
I still want to call my first daughter Frankie, after her dad. I was named after my dad and thought that would be a nice tradition to carry on, but everyone I shared this name with before she was born HATED it--everyone said "Frankie" is the name of a girl who beats up the boys, tries out for the football team, etc., etc...and I listened to them! It's been one of my biggest regrets--she acts just like her daddy and the name would fit her perfectly!!!
I would love to name a future daughter "Charlie", after my dad, but DH says it doesn't pass the DJ test.
What's the DJ test?
Go back to my post and read the paragraph above the one you quoted. It's DH's "DJ in a strip club" test. A lot of names fell off our list due to this test.
Jack (but my nephew who is Canadian is named Jacques) Christopher (but it's an ex) Aiden (but it's way over done) Aspen (but the more I said, the more it sounded like Aspirin)
Emmy (DH vetoed, also his cousin is Emily and they call her Emmy a lot) Claire (DH's sister's name) Ava (but my cousin used it for his daughter) Kadence (DH vetoed it) Berkin (DH vetoed)
Good choice! But it always makes me a little sad to hear it b/c I had NEVER heard of another when we chose it and now it seems to be on the rise - more than I would like it to, at least. I wish I had kept it top secret when we chose it!
Re: What are names you love but didn't use?
Here are some that I love but can't use:
Kathryn (DH's ex)
Ryan (my ex)
Matthew (my ex)
Helen (wretched lawyer I used to work with)
Charlotte (a friend of mine who I haven't seen in 12 years named her baby this and I stomped my foot when I found out. I only talk to her once a year via email. Not fair!)
Mia - we aren't having a girl
Vivian
Giada (I think DH has a crush on the TV Giada but he won't admit it.). I like it but it's to close to mine.
Andrew
Charles -- DH's grandfather. I don't like his mom and this would have made her happy. Yes I'm like that with her.
Harrison
John - friend used it and I won't use the same name as her
Thomas
Patrick
We kept leaning towards "traditional" names. Not sure why just did.
Ava (because it was Hitler's gf name)
Porter (Still may use it if we ever have a boy)
Olivia (God daughters name)
Audrey (Neices name)
Liam (DH's brother "claimed" it)
I can tell you a name my DH loved that we will never use.
Ariel.
For a boy.
Yeah. VETO.
Holly, Jillian, Kara (we have our girl name picked, and this is most likely the last kid, so...)
Garrett (was our boy name, until DH up and decided he didn't like it anymore. Boo).
Colby (an ex. great guy, but no.)
Thomas (it's my Uncle's name, and I think my cousin should get first dibs, even though I don't know if she even wants kids).
<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home D
lmao. That's pretty bad.
Meredith, Emily, Anna
Ryan, Jackson, Desmond (we may still use it, but probably not)
ETA: I also love Roman. I didn't think of using it till a friend did.
I always loved Jack for a boy but we have 2 different close friends who had Jacks right before DS.
Gwendolyn was (and still is) our girl name; after my grandmother. I can't wait to use it. Middle name will be Faith after the other grandma.
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
Hilarious!
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
Girl's name I love, but we didn't use: Amaya
(I have no clue what my hangup on "A" names for girls is!)
Boy's: Liam
I loved the name Tate, until I had a coworker with that as a last name. Now I think of:
Lac-tate
Frus-trate
Ampu-tate
Decapi-tate
Dic-tate
Pros-tate
Regurgi-tate
Yah, it's a long list. LOL He had to be very careful naming his son
My DH won't humor any serious name talk (we're not pg)... but he always tells people we'll name our first child Miroslav Podolski (sp??)

"The House We Built."

Harper, for a girl. Love it, but we had 2 boys. It sounds really cute with our last name.
Jackson. We already have a --son.
My name list:
Audrey - too many friends and 1 cousin have used it
Greyson - favorite boy's name ever, but my friend has dibs on it
Grey - used
Jaxon - used
Vivian - my mother's name, and I love this name, but I'm afraid it will make me sad, you know ... in the unspeakable future.
Aleena - was friend's daughter's name, her daughter passed away, and this will always be one of my favorite girl names.
Alyssa - met a slutty girl named Alyssa who ruined it for me
Name I love but DH says NO: Madison
We really don't have any off limits names, except we don't want to use any names of ex's or names that are already in the family for kids.
Our Family Blog
Brady - DH's pick, after Tom Brady, who I despise. also reminds me of SATC, so no.
Peyton - Another DH pick; I'm a huge Indy Colts fan but I don't want to look like that person who names their kid after their favorite athlete
(See a trend here? ha!)
Alexander - used by family
Sidney - used by family
I love Madison, Clare and Jackson, but they are all variations of names used by friends.

I LOVE Dot. You better not take it.
Mandie is NMS.

Not PG yet, but I love the name Katelyn, but I know way too many people that have used it
Middle name that I will use is Dawn (girl) or Donald (boy) after my grandfather, although I have no idea what name(s) to put with it.
LOL that's my (male) boss's name!

Oh! William!
William is about my favoritest name ever, but stupid SIL named her son that 7 years ago. Hoebag.
What's the DJ test?
Matthew- that's DH's name. At least I still get to say it everyday.
Steven is really the only boy name I liked when I was pg with DS.
Girls names I will never get to use: Shelby, Shaylee, Sadie, Sydney, Weslie
Simone, Jeannette, Raven, Mallory,..and
Camile, (love the name, but didn't pick it because it just happens to be DH's ex girlfriend's middle name so that killed it.)
Vivian, (I've always loved this name. One of my cabbage patch dolls was named Vivian
Blair (homage to Blair on the Fact's of Life from the '80s- I wanted to be her..lol)
We ended up picking our orig choice, Priscilla.
MH jokes (threatens?) we will name our (non-existent) daughter patience - because I have none.
and our (non-existent) son will be named ladanian because he loves the san diego chargers.
kill.me.now.
Girl: Felicity, Ruth
Boy: Gregory, Owen, Noel

Our other girl name was Laurel.
We never got very far with boy names.
I actually brought up Patience because NEITHER of us is known for that.
And DH wants to name a son either McCoy OR Tim Duncan Lastname.
We're totally screwed if we ever have a boy. I have only really liked the names Vaughn and Connell, and DH hates them.
I adore the name Tanith (like the ice skater) and DH thought it sounded made up. Boo to that!
