Hating the carseat - help!

DS did just fine in the carseat at first.  There was a period around 5-6 weeks when he decided he didn't like it, but then he got over it for a bit.  The last few weeks, though, have pretty much been carseat hell.  Every now and then I'll get lucky, but even then, it's a delicate situation.  Sit at a traffic light too long and it could all end.

It is really starting to take its toll on me - such that yesterday I realized I've started to dread going anywhere and I'm feeling like a hermit.  The current state of affairs just isn't working.  I just want to be able to go places without Armageddon taking place in my backseat.

Has anyone else dealt with this, or do I have the only carseat-hating baby (ooh, lucky me!)?  Any suggestions?

OMG. I was reading your post really fast and I thought you named your kid Armageddon!!!!!! I was thinking "maybe he's behaving this way as pay back for the crappy name you gave him." LOL

I got a little puppy/rattle toy from Carter's Child Of Mine at Walmart that clips to the carseat and DS loved it! He batts at it and smiles and coos at it. Have you tried getting a little toy for the car seat? DS also loves his Seahorse in his carseat.

    Hahaha!

He has several toys, but alas, those don't seem to help.  It's amazing how long and loudly he can cry and yell...

  • I'm a member of your club. DS is 9 wks and is not a fan so I also feel trapped at home. Was displaced for 5 days bc of the wind storms in the NE on Sat (no power at home) and had to drive 2 hours with baby to get to the in-laws and then back with him this AM...every time I hit traffic or a light, and I swear I hit them all, he screamed. I even plan trips around nap times hoping he will conk out but it doesn't always work. Have you tried putting up the sun shade? I know your not supposed to but I'm going to try it next time - I noticed he seems to dig the pattern in it...

  • When I get to a red light I make sure to leave lots of room between me and the car in front of me.  Every few seconds I let off the break then stop again to keep movement going.

  • I am having the same problem!  I went on itunes and purchased a vacuum song/track a few days ago.  I put it on right when we get in the car and hit repeat for the whole car ride!  So far I am 2 for 2.  We haven't been out much this week though so I am hoping it is not a fluke!
  • Ha! I also leave extra space when I know I am going to hit a red light. I also intentionally hit bumps in the road bc DS seems to like them. I am downloading white noise on to my iPod this weekend!!!
