when should I have DS's 3yo bday party?

I really want to have DS1's 3rd birthday party at a gym near our house. We went to a bday party there in Jan & the kids had a blast. And I figure July will be so hot, unless you're doing a water play party or something, it's just too hot for kiddos to be outside running around for very long. This is running around inside.

His bday is July 2nd, a Friday and, obviously, 2 days before the 4th of July. I don't want to have his party that weekend b/c people will have holiday plans and may be out of town, etc. The gym only has availability on the Sat before his bday (June 26th) or on Sun the week before that (June 19th).  I'd prefer to have it on a Sunday afternoon so as not to conflict with people's typically busy Saturdays, but the only Sunday availability is a full two weeks before his actual bday.

If your child was an invitee, would it matter to you if the party was on a Sat at 4:00 or a Sunday at 4:00? WWYD? This is the downside of a bday close to a holiday...

  • I would have it on the Sat. before his birthday. IMO, I would prefer to attend a party on a Saturday and leave Sunday evening open for resting and prepping for the week ahead.

I agree.  Also, you might be surprised by the number of people who do not go out of town for the 4th of July.  Having the party on the the 3rd might not be a terrible option, unless you had plans to be OOT.

  • We wouldn't have a preference between the Saturday or the Sunday. 4 is far enough after church to not conflict so I doubt if anyone would have problems there. We always do Saturday because it is easier for our family from Dallas to travel, but if you don't have any travelers that wouldn't be an issue either. We are probably going to have to go two weeks out from Rhett's birthday next year because we discovered a conflict with another birthday in our circle of friends this year. It's not ideal in my mind, but I figure we will celebrate with our family on his actual birthday anyway and Rhett doesn't really care right now when the party is.
