Yeah, I'm whining about my stupid calf still. I had a charley horse two nights ago and my calf is still all bunched up. I'm stretching it, J has tried to rub the knot out, I'm drinking water like it's going out of style, and I've had probably 3 bananas in the last 24 hours. What else can I do?? I never had one this bad with Ocho...and I'm embarassed to be limping around like a fool. Am I missing any sure-fire charley horse cures? Anyone?? I know this is a lame post, but I'm still in paaaiinn. /whine over (here anyway)
Re: I need help (whiney)
Oh that sucks! I get rid of a charley horse by stretching the calf. Flex your foot. But I guess you already tried that?
Maybe try a bath? Soaking in warm water with that Epson salt, or whatever it is that athletes use. Its just off the top of my head, I have no idea if that would actually work or not.
I get them during pregnancy a lot and they KILL so you are allowed to whine!
The minute you feel one coming on, pull your toes back toward you. Like pp said, flex your foot and then pull your toes back. It stretches it out and it always makes mine go away before it can get worse. My calf is still usually a bit sore when I walk on it after but it beats sitting through that pain. HTH!

My nurse said to take calcium, it will help with the cramping too. GL! That sucks!!
Oh man - I feel your pain. I was awoken this morning just 10 minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off with a terrible charley horse. Fortunately all of mine have gone away with stretching and rubbing.
Here's something that's helped me in the past though when I had really bad muscle ache, that might help you too! - Take a bath with Epsom Salt (about 1/2 cup) and add 1 Tbs. Mustard Seed. A masseuse friend tipped me off to this and I swear it works. Mustard is an old remedy used to improve circulation, release toxins from your body as well as to help you relax). He recommended whole seeds, but I've seen recipes for bath salts online that call for powder.
Here's a link that provides more info on the remedy -

The one thing I would recommend that isn't noted is to soak in the bath with a bikini bottom (or swim suit) as mustard can be a skin irritant.
Hope this helps! GL!!!
