I am having touble with the ergo..DS loved it when he was little - but now he is too big to be bunched up, and too small to have his legs splayed.  Am I doing something wrong?  Or do I just need to use my Bjorn until he can open his hips?

I had to wait until DD was about 5 months old to use the ERGO.  It just didn't work any earlier for her.  Good luck, Jenn

I put him in sideways when he was your babe's age. They encourage the use of the insert but I didn't use it. I just made sure he was positioned to where he wouldn't fall thorough. I didn't do anything strenuous when he was in this position.

I forgot about the sideways carry.  I will give that a try.

I read that you can't do the splayed-leg carry until they are 16 pounds. We can't quite do it with DS yet and he weighs about that much. We've been using the Moby in the meantime, which he likes since he can face out.

Yeah,I was also going to suggest the side carry.  I always used the bjorn though, b/c she so enjoyed being able to look out and see people.

When DS was too big for the insert but too small for both legs splayed i did one leg tucked up sort of like sitting indian style and one leg out and that worked really well. I also tried the hip position which he liked but I found it uncomfortable for me.

Side carry didn't work well for me, I felt like the strap dug into my neck a lot. I can't quite remember what we did, but I think we put him sideways, but without the infant insert. I really can't remember...I think we would also put him in so he was chest to chest with us and his knees were sort of pulled up. I think by the time he was 4-5 months he was doing the legs open thing.
