2nd Trimester

Another Note to Self:

Yowch! Never get my teeth cleaned while pregnant again.... They sure look pretty...but it hurt like hell. (Never has bothered me before). :(

Anyone else?

Re: Another Note to Self:

  • What, really?  Oh no, I made an appt for in 2 weeks!  It hurts while pregnant?!?

  • I HATE the dentist. I have sensitive teeth and still have two baby teeth that are staying put until absolutely necessary to remove (no perm. teeth beneath). I am always in pain when getting a thorough cleaning.

I have an appt scheduled in 3 weeks, but after seeing your post, I might need to cancel.

  • You definitely bleed more when pregnant too.  I'm also due for a teeth cleaning.
  • That stinks!

I got my teeth cleaned and four different cavities filled and it didn't feel any different than it does when I'm not pregnant...which was a relief because I was a little nervous about getting the fillings!

  • Oh yeah, it was brutal when I went last month!  My gums have never bled so much :/

  • I normally don't have a problem at all with cleanings. I knew they would be a little sensitive because I had noticed that they have started bleeding a little sometimes when I brush. (From what I hear... that is normal).

I did not expect at all the amount of pain and bleeding that I had this afternoon.

Not trying to scare you guys.... just shocked. Maybe it was just the hygenist...

  • I wouldn't know :(. I'm overdue for a cleanng now (due in Jan). But at my first OB appt, they said no dentist visits at all.. the entire pregnancy. So, I went along with it.

  • Ladies you have to get your teeth cleaned while preg. Up keep is very important during preg. bc of all of the issues you have talked about (more bleeing, gum sensitivity ....) Being preg. you are more prone to gum issues, bacteria, infection.....Do not cancel your appts!!!

THis and the problems listed above can lead to pre-term labor.

  • I went for a cleaning a few weeks ago, and the only thing that happened was my gums bled. My teeth are generally sensitive anyway, and have been for years, and I think my hygenist was gentler on my furniture b/c i'm pregnant. It's really important you go for a cleaning... especially if you were sick, and the 2nd trimester is the safest time to go, according to my dentist. He'll do dental work in the 3rd if completely necessary, but I really think the worst thing are the gums bleeding and some sensitivity...no worries, man up! :)
  • My dentist and hygienist said it's more important than ever to keep up the dental hygiene and to go to cleanings while pregnant.  I actually knew someone who lost a bunch of teeth while pregnant so I'm totally paranoid.  Plus someone posted something a couple of days ago on this board, a link to a news story that said a stillbirth was caused by bacteria from gum disease.  I'm definitely keeping my appointment in May.  It helps that I love my dentist/dentist's office (never thought I'd say that).
