I thought we were out of the woods since we made it this far without an ear infection, but DS has his first one. We got amoxicillin and I had it flavored. They suggested giving probiotics and I'll probably use a protective coat of Aquaphor since he's prone to bleeding diaper rashes. Anything else I need to know?
FWIW, he never had a fever, always rubs his ears, and he's teething so I thought that's why he was fussy. I was totally surprised when the pedi said it was infected.
Re: Should have paid more attention to EI posts
What did you have it flavored with? Isn't that the pink stuff that kids love in its natural flavor?
Babytaffy just finished a round for a double ear infection (which I didn't know were infected - he was happy as could be, just oozing stuff out his EYES! I thought he maybe had sinus issues or impacted tear ducts or something, nope - double ear infection). The first day he didn't want the meds, but I think it was because I was shooting them in his mouth too fast and he couldn't swallow it quick enough so he would spit it at me. On dose three, I let him do the shooting and he's been loving them ever since. He does get a treat after his meds - at first it was a cookie and then it progressed to two minty ice cream Dibs. He reminds us that it is medicine time. He'll be sad to learn that he's all done.
Hope your little guy gets to feeling better. Oh, and don't brag about them not having ear infections. I learned my lesson - told someone that he'd only ever had one (and it was related to the flu) and bam- he got this double infection within days!
Cherry flavor- oops. I thought I remembered hearing it was hard to get them to take it, so when they offered the flavoring I said yes. It was white before the flavoring, though.
Interesting about the eyes- DD had that last week and her ears were fine.
I answered a poll a couple weeks ago about ear infections and said neither kid has had one. I should know better!
Thanks for the input
When Jack is on abx, his poop never smells. Because of that, I make it a habit to (almost literally) check his diaper 5x/hour. He also gets a yeast infection (red and bumpy) when on them. The dr. said to use Lotramin AF (in the foot care section) along w/ the diaper cream if that happens.
