How long was your NIC-U stay? The only answer I am getting from the drs. is that they should be home before their due date. I am just curious what to expeyt.

My DS was born at 32w3d (he was 4lbs, 1/2oz and 18" long) and we were told to plan on staying 4-6 weeks. By about 2.5 weeks they were already talking about getting ready to send him home but we had feeding issues so we ended up staying a full 30 days. No real problems to speak of - ours was considered a "benign stay" and the last 1.5wks or so was seriously just to get him to eat.
I was also diagnosed very quickly with severe Pre-E and my daughter was taken via emergency c-section at 31w4d. She weight 3lbs 1oz. She had no breathing issues (thank you steroid shots) and was off CPAP and everything else within 24 hours. Our biggest issue was feeding. It took her a few weeks to get it down pat but to this day is still a picky eater. She spent 30 days in the NICU. I think they would have let her go home a week or 5 days sooner but I was hesitant with her feeds and didn't want to rush it till I was comfortable in feeding her all her bottles.
Congrats on your LOs! Francie had a 6 week stay, so she came home about 2 weeks before her due date. Our goal was to get her home by her due date, so we were pretty happy we ended up leaving sooner! GL!

PGAL and PAL Always Welcome!
DS was born at 32w6d due to bleeding from a previa and weighed 4lbs 14oz. he had very little time on the CPAP/cannula (maybe 3 days total) and then we just hung out waiting for the little guy to eat. and then we waited some more. and then we waited some more. he finally figured it out the day after christmas and was home 2 days later! our total NICU stay was 26 days.
It was about 28 days. She was born at 32 weeks, 3 lbs 14.5 oz., 17.5". Issues were stubborn jaundice and feed/grow. No reflux, NEC, heart problems and no intubation.
Mine were born at 32 weeks, also. They weighed 3.5lbs. I had the steroid shots but they still needed breathing help. They spent 31 days in the NICU, with learning how to eat as being what held us up the longest. But 4 weeks is really good.
DD was born at 32w3d. We were always told to expect close to her due date. However at 2.5 weeks they started telling us to be prepared to have her home soon, she came home at 3 weeks (22 days).

Thank you for asking this. My little man was just born on Saturday at 32w1d and i just came home without him. I am totally crying today but know he needs to be there. it's killing me but helpful to know the range from other ladies. I am not going to hold my breath that he'll come home before 2 weeks, but I pray he will be able to come home in 3. I just feel like I left a piece of my heart at the hospital.
Trig was 32 weeks 6 days and weighed 2lbs 15oz. He was in the NICU for 33 days but his big issue was weight gain because he was SO SMALL when he was born. He was just over 4lbs at discharge.
Congrats on the arrival of you LO's! DS was born at 32w 4d. He stayed in the NICU for 31 days. His stay was pretty boring ...thank goodness. He did have an issue with reflux. They did tell us the same thing in the beginning. I did not expect DS to come home sooner than his due date ..... but he did!
We were home on day 6. One nurse made the comment, "What? Are you trying to break a record for going home earliest at this gestation?"
I doubt that, but LO was 4lb 3oz so I can see where the concern is. Obviously, the doctor thought she was ready though!
Throughout our experience, they said, "by due date" because, I think, they don't want to get your hopes up. Even on day 5, the RNs told us not to look forward to it even though the doctor said he'd probably discharge her at the next mornings rounds--which he did.

DS never had any medical issues after being born so early, just needed to gain weight and get his feeding down. We were originally told 2-3 weeks at least then were told they don't like letting them out before their 35w mark. He was in the hospital for just under 2 weeks. He weighed 4lbs11oz at birth and by the time we left he was 4lbs15.3oz. I think its really going to be just how your LOs progress. GL and just try to remember they're in really good hands.
