High-Risk Pregnancy

Pre term labor @25 weeks.... sooo scared

I am 25 weeks prego with our first. round 21 weeks I started to have cramps. They felt like my period was going to be coming at any moment. I also felt pressure down on my cervix. Called the phy and they had me come right in for a vag. sonogram and to check to make sure I was not dialated. Everything was fine so they sent me home with 24hrs bed rest. They thought it was muscular. I went about 3 weeks later for my monthly checkup. I had been still getting the cramps everyday for those 3 weeks in between as well. Told the phy I was still cramping and he was concerned. He was feeling my belly and measuring and asked me if I was cramping then. I said yes that I am always cramping adn he said i was acutally having contractions. My belly was getting hard then releasing. He expressed how concerned he was that I was only 25 weeks. Did another check to make sure I was still closed and not dialated. Eveything in that area was fine. THANK GOODNESS. He said I need to hold of till AT LEAST 10 more weeks, but to me that is still really early.

So to make a long story short I can now only work 4 hrs a day and then I have to be in bed for the rest of the day. I am so frustrated. It is going to be a long 3 more months :(

  • hang in there. that's scary but its great news that your cervix is closed. i started PTL with ds at 24wk (with cervical changes) and didn't end up having him until 36wk.

  • Remember to drink lots of water too!  I can only imagine how scary it is.  My girlfriend is right about the same as you, and she is also already experiencing PTL.  This is her 2nd and she had the same with her 1st.  Just remember to try and stay calm, eat well and get those fluids in.  Every time she started thinking she was going to start contractions again, she just sat down, relaxed and started drinking water again.

Good luck.  Here's to AT LEAST 10 more weeks for you.

  • Thank you for the info... that is great you were able to hold off till 36wks.... Gives me a little hope

  • Have u asked your doc about giving u meds to help stop the contractions. Ask them about it. I have a cerclage and have been dealing with contractions and I am taking procardia to stop/minimize contractions. Blame all typos on my iPhone. : )
  • I'm surprised they are having you still work half days.  If you feel at all that this is still too much, you HAVE to tell your doctor and go on bedrest.  I know it sucks -- I've done it twice now.  But it is SO worth it.

  • I would also ask about the drugs to stop contractions.

Did they give you an ffn test?  What about steroid injections?

  • Thanks ladies.... nooo no drugs to stop anything yet. I think if I was dialted they would have. I think they are trying to just treat it with bed rest. Oh I will def tell my dr if working 4 hrs is becoming to much. My baby's health comes FIRST. It was a good sign they only want to see me next month and not sooner. Hopefully we can hold off on the drugs of anykind and that bed rest is the key.
  • Just to give you some hope, I started with PTL at 24 weeks. I was in the hospital twice at 24wks and 26wks then on bedrest until 37wks. It was rough but my DS stayed put until 40w5d when my water broke at home. Drink tons of water and rest.

  • The fact that your contractions aren't changing your cervix is great news!  I've also been having consistent contractions since 21 weeks and have a soft cervix, but no other significant changes.  I've been taking a uterine relaxer, but I STILL have contractions, so not all meds work...
