Do they make child safety locks for doorwalls?

Max has figured out how to unlock the doorwall and that he needs to remove the stick in order to open the door too.  Do they make something he catch reach or figure out?

He is definitely my more adventurous child!

  • You know, the sliding glass doors that some homes have!  Is calling it that a regional thing?

  • Wow, I'm glad you clarified, b/c I have never heard "doorwall" before! To me they're sliding glass doors. Sometimes called patio doors, too. There's tons of them out there, I found a million on google. Just try googling patio doors instead of doorwall ;)

  • OMG...Doorwall is such a metro-Detroit term!  The only person I've known in my life to call it that is my bff from Shelby Twshp.  LOL!

haha!  I thought that's what everyone called them!  Who knew?!

I guess that's where I went wrong with my search.  Thanks!

  • If you want something more permanent, they make a deadbolt for "doorwalls" too. They go at the bottom of the sliding part (backside). Not sure how to install them, since they were already in our's, but they are great for extra safety too.
  • Guess I can tell I grew up in the Detroit area as I knew what a doorwall was right away!!!  Anyway, we found something that works great, I think it was from One Step Ahead but I could be wrong as we got it about a year ago. It has a piece of velcro that you stick to the window, we have ours way up the top and then a piece sticks to that and it doesn't allow the door to open past the point you have it stuck on if that makes any sense.  The stop piece comes off super easy so you can still get in and out but since we have it at the top, the kids can't reach it and it is suppose to come off easily (the velcro) when you no longer need it.

  • I knew what it was right away as well...and I did not grow up in Metro Detroit (although I DO live in Michigan and have all my life).  I have also heard them called "sliders".  Normally our "sliders"/"doorwalls" open onto a deck or porch.  French doors usually open onto "patios".  lol
