Northern California Babies

Question about baby!

So, I have a friend who has a 10 month old, and I know that lots of parents when baby is new will have one sit back with baby in the car so that if she cries etc, she can be easily reached. (of course this takes two people). I had never experienced this until living in this area... and I am wondering...

Do you or your DH sit in the back of the car with baby?

How old was baby when you stopped?

Re: Question about baby!

  • Only on the ride home from the hospital, I sat in the back.

DH or I have sat in the back on rare occasion when EJ is really upset and wants food because us being in the car coincides with mealtime for him or he woke up earlier than expected and is hungry. This has happened like...4 times?

  • Do you or your DH sit in the back of the car with baby? There has been a handful of times we have done this.

How old was baby when you stopped? It was never a regular thing

  • we don't do that except for when we brought her home from the hospital. i sat back w/ her.

  • Like pp's, I sat in the back on the way home from the hospital. When she still took a bottle, there were maybe 2-3 times that I sat back with her so she could eat because we were on the road when she needed to be fed. It was never a regular thing.

  • One of us will sit in the back with her if she needs to have a snack.  She is still rear facing and not always thrilled about it, so if she gets pissed one of us will usually jump back there to entertain her.  Whatever works.

  • We don't sit in the back.  But our little guy never really had a problem riding in the car.

  • We've done it a handful of times, mostly when she was sick/fussy.

  • Only when we came home from the hospital... when we have passengers (my parents mostly), I'll always volunteer to sit in back, because it's a fun change for me and him!
  • I still do but was thinking the other day that I should stop - he really doesn't need me back there. I think it just made me feel better to watch him.

  • I very rarely sit back w/ G. I never really did it. I rode back home with him from the hospital and that was the only time I felt like I should do it.

If I ride back there, it's because I'm trying to give him milk/water & keep him from spilling it all over the back seat when he's done.

  • We did it on the way home from the hospital and then for a couple of weeks after she was born. Mostly because I liked to look at her. :) We still do it now for really long trips.

  • I did with S and stopped when M was born.  There was no room for me in the back seat anymore.  I sat in the back with S because she had a really bad reflux problem and always got sick in the car.  It was easier than having to pull over each time to clean up.
  • I did this for the ride home from the hospital, and for the first few trips to the pedi's office.

Otherwise, we alternated riding in the back with DS for the first few weeks. I just liked being able to hold his hand and talk to him. :) We will still occasionally do it if DS is really cranky.

  • Until my nephew was a bit over a year old, my sil was always in the back seat with him. He was not a good car baby. I don't think they still do this - he's 2.5 now.
  • With C, one of us only rode in the back with him on the way home from the hospital.

A was a preemie and pretty small and her head control wasn't the greatest, so I rode in the back with her until she was about 6 weeks old.

  • If the both of us are in the car, one of us always rides in the back. Lele is also not a great car baby and tolerates it much better if she has some company.

  • One of us sat in the back until he had more head control and didn't flop forward in the car seat.  So maybe a couple of weeks?  10 months sounds like a LONG time!  But then again, you never know how the kid is.  Some kids hate the car and the only thing that will keep them from screaming is having company.
