So I am 17 weeks, and am down a -2 pounds for this pregnancy. My OB isn't really worried. She says that I am growing just fine and my body will do what my body needs to do. Do I need to be worried? I eat when I can and I feel like I have been doing a lot better since the ms went away. I just get sick if I eat too much or eat too late.
My DH and sister keep trying to fatten me up (bringing me malts and onion rings), but I think as long as I eat when I can and eat decent foods - that it will all be okay?
Re: Everyone is trying to fatten me up.
Yuck, I hate being force-fed crap. My family has tried to pressure me to go to McDonald's too. Even Dr. Luke's book talks about frozen dinner mac and cheese as being something good to eat.
Um, no, it's really not, people. The chemicals and preservatives and empty calories are not what my babies need. I get medical advice from my doctor. Thanks though.
I'm not a big eater, so I've had to push myself to get a good amount of protein, dairy, and so on, but I haven't made myself miserable with it. I also treat myself to ice cream and so on when I WANT it since there's no better time to kick up the calories. Do your best!
lol, "malts and onion rings" are not going to do anything good for your baby.
tell your fam if they want to feed you to feed you good, healthy foods!/
personally, i never minded people trying to feed me...I like being fed. but feed me quality food.
Actually, I think Dr. Luke's recommendations in terms of early weight gain make sense. I haven't seen her research contradicted, which leads me to believe that it is possible if not likely that the early weight gain can help increase length of gestation and therefore correspond to higher birth weights.
That said I TOTALLY agree with the PPs that eating crap food to meet that end is a dumbass idea. I did start having a cup of ice cream at night, but I figure that's just whole milk and natural sugar... I did not start eating fast food or anything processed! I did things like eating larger snacks (example - instead of an apple, an apple and a greek yogurt) or adding avocado and cheese to salads. Stuff like that.
I am glad I put on more weight than I think I would have if I had just eaten normally. I'm 35 weeks, the boys are measuring really well and I've had a very healthy pregnancy. While I gained 20 lbs by 20 weeks, I'm now at 35 weeks and have only gained a total of 37 lbs. It's gotten a lot harder to put on weight in my 3rd tri b/c my stomach is so small.
