Help with "Rae" girl names

DH & I are really struggling to find a name for our baby girl.

Last night we came across the name Raelyn/Raelynn in a baby book and both of us kind of liked it.  After having slept on it, I'm iffy on it today.  I've never known anyone with the name, so I'm thinking it looks/sounds a bit made up.

Have you ever heard the name Raelyn/Raelynn?

DH really liked it, so if I veto it, I want to give him some alternatives.  Have you heard other girl names that include the "Rae" or "Ray" sound at the beginning?  So far I have:  Raegan/Reagan, Rayna...

  • i went to school w/a raelynn. i also knew a raina, and babysat a raini. dh's old boss was RaeAnn.

a lot of times i think the RAE spelling looks made up. if you do Reagan please do E before A.

  • no i haven't heard it but if i did i would think it was made up. i think reagan [spelled the correct way] is your best bet.

  • Ray seems like strictly a boy's name to me.  I knew a Raina/Reighna. If you found it in a baby book and it is not "American" in origin, it is not made up.  If you love it, use it.:)
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • I don't think Raelynn sounds made up.  I grew up with one also.
  • I used to work at a daycare and there was a family that had all boys and did R names. Ryan, Reagan, Reese and then they had a daughter and she was Raelynn. Its NMS but it fit them and the baby perfectly.

Sometimes names you aren't sure of grow on you. I say add it to your list and think about it for the next few months. :) Good luck!

  • All the variations of it are NMS, but I went to HS with a girl named Rae. I think Rae is okay.

  • I haven't heard it, but it's all right.

My sister's name is Raina, and I have always loved that.  I've also heard of Raeann.

The only other one I can think of is Rachel, which actually is my name, but that doesn't sound like your style.

  • I know a girl named Raegan, two girls and a boy named Reagan, and a girl named Rae-Anne.

  • My middle name is Rae!  I was going to suggest Rachel as that has the same sound you're looking for, but a more traditional name.  My crazy grandparents changed my name on my baptismal certificate by adding "-chel" to the end of my middle name so that it was a biblical name (Rachel).  They didn't like that Rae wasn't in the bible apparently.  I don't recommend spelling it Raechel though.  Thankfully I never have to use that name for anything.  Wink

  • A few seasons ago on american idol, wow that sounds so lame saying out loud, they had a girl named "Ray-me-elle". I can't remember how they spelled it but I thought it sounded neat.

  • I love the name Reyna/Rayna/Raina!  My H was adopted and it was the name of his biological mother.  *If* we have another child and it is a girl, I would like to incorporate that as a first or middle name for her.
  • my little sister's BFF is Raena (pronounced Ray-na) I worked with A Rae-ann.  That's really all I can think of.
  • I like it! Of course, I'm biased, as my and my mother's middle name is "Rae".  I love spelling this way.

     Raelynn is very cute!

  • DD's middle name is Rae

  • I went to high school with a Raeleen (I am not sure on the spelling, but that's how it was pronounced)
  • My BFF's name is Raelene and we call her Rae for short :)
  • My middle name is Rae and I love it.  I've known a Raelene, Rayanne, Raegan.

    There's Raella, Raelina, Raelynn

  • i like it - don't think it sounds "made up" - very similar to our girl name - i can tell you that its a combo name from rae and lynn, rae meaning doe and lynn meaning waterfall so it makes me think of a cute dear drinking from a beautiful waterfall - a nice image IMO. i've also found that the ae spellings are typically irish - don't know if you happen to be irish but i am which is one of the reasons i like this version of spelling and chose it for our girl name.
