TTC after 35

started clomid last night. . .

for the "clomid challenge."  I'm not hopeful that it will result in a BFP because my RE thinks the sperm may not be getting through my sucky cervix. . .

Still I'm happy to have the testing started and to see how old my eggs really are.

For those of you who have taken clomid, can you share your side effects?  When did you O?

 Thanks!

Re: started clomid last night. . .

  • The only side effects I had were a few hot flash type feelings...but I did seem to get overly b*tchy...just ask my hubs.   LOL!

I also took it at night before going to bed, don't know if that made a difference or not.  I O'd on CD 13 the first time and CD 14 the second time.

    GL to you!

  • My s/e were hot flashes and night sweats (bad night sweats). I remember the first time I took it and didn't read the s/e, I was sitting at my desk at work and got so hot I wanted to rip my clothes off.  I kept thinking 'WTF is wrong with me?!'Indifferent

Try taking it at night, it helps with s/e a little (not a whole lot but it's worth a shot).  Also, make sure you take it at the same time every night.

    Good luck!

ETA:  I forgot to answer the O question.  I usually ovulated between CD16-19, a couple of times I ovulated on CD29.  I usually only had 1 follie and  I did get pregnant on my 3rd round of 100mg (which I unfortunately m/c but that had NOTHING to do with the Clomid) so it did for work me in that sense.

  • On 50 mg of clomid I felt ok but I *think* I may have had a few hot flashes.  The first month of 100mg clomid...bad headaches.  The past month...none.

For my clomid challenge test I don't recall the day I O'd.

    Good luck!

  • I really didn't have bad side effects other than a few mild headaches and some minor (or maybe not so minor) mood swings........I chalked most of it up to the stress of the situation.

My body doesn't O regularly (3-4/year on average), so it took me about 4-5 months of increasing the dosage to get me to finally O.  Even then, I could never get a + on the OPKs.  Clomid didn't really work for me..........I could never tell when I O'd and even then, I think I also have a evil cervix which won't let sperm through alive.

I hope you do better with it!  Best of luck for a BFP!!

  • I had terrible hot flashes, headaches and hostile CM.  I recommend getting some preseed to help the swimmers out.

  • I just finished my first dose of Clomid last week.  The first few days I felt fine, but I started to get headaches on days 3, 4 and 5.  Other than that I was really, really onery - worse than when I'm on AF!  I even talked backed to my boss, which I would never normally do.  So definitely watch out for the moodiness.
  • Thanks ladies!  You are all so supportive!  I will be prepared for all of these side effects.  I hope my poor students don't bear the brunt of my mood swings (or poor DH!).
