Bad cold vs. rsv

My dd has had a stuffy nose for the past week.  She's had no fevers but just today, she started feeling more raspy in her chest.  I'll call the pedi tomorrow but for those of you who have battled RSV, how did you know it was more than a cold?

  • I don't know how to tell, but definitely get her checked out. I just read the most heartbreaking thread about someone who lost their baby to RSV and I DON'T want to see that happen to anyone else. Sorry, I don't mean to freak anyone out, but it really made me sad.

  • For us, it was the awful and pitiful sounding cough DS had.  The dr said this time of year she considers all coughs and colds that sound bad in really yound babies to be RSV just based on the season.  The treatment is the same though if it is a bad cough and cold or if it is RSV.
