Driving to NYC

We're going to NY on Saturday.  Our original plan was to drive through the night on Friday and get there very early on Saturday, but now I have to work Saturday until 1:30 so we won't be able to leave until mid afternoon.

How would you recommend we handle this drive?  We were thinking of stopping every couple hours for a few minutes of play time.  I would hate for her to sleep the entire ride and not sleep on saturday evening - that'll throw her whole schedule off.  Suggestions are very much appreciated - TIA!

Re: Driving to NYC

  • We are taking a long road trip in a couple weeks.  I plan on sitting in the back during her awake times and just trying to stimulate her with books and toys.  We are hoping to only stop every 4 hours - when she needs to eat.  So basically drive for 3 1/2 hours at a time.  I really don't want to be stuck to the back seat bc I will have hardly any room since the dog will be back there too.  But then again, cranking myself around to try to play with her from the front would suck too.

  • Hmm. I'm not sure.. but I doubt she will sleep the ENTIRE ride, even if she normally sleeps in the car. Definitely plan on stopping often!

  • jnk's suggestions are probably the best. Bring things that would stimulate her when she's awake. Stop at the times when you'd normally feed her. Take time to eat, yourself, even if you feel your schedule is all thrown off because you are starting out later than planned. Have a good trip!
