After deliberating for weeks, I finally decided on a Pikkolo (over the Ergo and Beco). It came this week and I tried it a few times, but I think I hate it.
I got the Pikkolo over the others mostly because it could do the hip hold. But when I tried it this way, the shoulder strap rode up really high and was against my neck. Totally not comfortable.
The back carry was fine, but the front carry was really uncomfortable too. The straps, again, rested really close to my neck and the cross on my back was really high up. I had this same problem with the Bjorn, which is why I wanted a new carrier.
I don't know if this is just the wrong carrier for me or if I need to practice with it more to find the best fits. FWIW, I'm 5'5", 135lbs, and I have pretty narrow shoulder.
Help! WWYD?
Re: Help! I think I hate my Pikkolo.
the hip carry is pretty much never comfy with a SSC. I don't even like doing a hip carry with a MT... ring slings are just more comfortable for that, IMO. Or a pouch.
Can you post pictures of you using the pikkolo for a front and back carry? Do you have the support belt? Also, it's meant to be worn higher than the beco or ergo... so if you have it down too low then it could be pulling you off balance.
you can do a hip carry with the Beco, you just have to rethread the straps (PITA, IMO).
If you want an affordable pouch sling for hip carries - check out Small Wish on Etsy. She does an amazing job and I adore her products. My pouch from her is my go-to errand running sling.
