Babies: 9 - 12 Months

So HAPPY!

My DD has NEVER taken a bottle. She has refused from day one. She screams and I haven't been able to leave the house because I'm the only one who can feed her. We can't go away at bed time because I have to put her to bed. We tried EVERYTHING! Well, all of a sudden, yesterday, she latched on to a bottle when I tried and last night actually gulped down 3 ounces!! My only dilemma is during the day she won't drink more than one oz at a time and I'm not sure how to get her to drink more. After one oz she pushes the bottle away, but I know she's obviously  not full. Maybe I should just give her time with it because she just started the bottle yesterday?

  • Have you tried having someone else other than you give the bottle?  I know they say that lots of babies will not take a bottle from mommy because they can smell the milk and prefer that.

This is what I was going to suggest too.  I had to leave the house in order for DD to take a bottle from DH.  I can be home now, but I still never feed her a bottle.  If she's going to get a bottle, then DH still gives it.

  • You could also try a different flow nipple. If you are using slow flow then try medium, and if you are using medium try slow. I think my LO likes different flow depending on time of day (when he gets a bottle obviously).
