When I was last at the high risk clinic the doctor said something about drinking pediasure once she turned 1 and gave us a sample of a vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ones.
I looked at the price and it's like $10 for 6 of them? Does this mean we will replace formula with pediasure for every feeding?
On another note my baby will be 1 on friday and so she is 8 mos adjusted. She seems to be really behind on baby food. She gags on it, doesn't really like it, barely eats any. She also still doesn't hold her own bottle.
Re: What does preemie eat once they turn 1?
Of course my experience is always skewed because we had some horrible reflux/vomiting/weight gain/eating issues, BUT, Evan stayed on BM/Infant formula until 20months, or 16 adjusted. 1) because it was all he could tollerate. 2) because the docs wanted him to get as much nutrition as possible from it. Orally he didn't take much at all, we put puree'd baby foods down his feeding tube. No we give him carnation instant breakfast for the extra calories etc.
As for your LO being way behind with baby food, from what your telling me I'm believe that may be a matter of opinion. My God daughter and niece was born term and healthy, and her pediatrician (who's been around 30yrs and does seem to know what he's talking about) had my SIL wait to start solids until she was 9 mo old. So she was entirely breastfed until then. I can tell you it takes awhile for a kiddo to learn what to do with that food you're putting in their mouths, some are faster at that than others. If I were in your shoes right now. I'd probably keep offering puree's etc 1-2 maybe 3/day (I wouldn't do too often, just because feeling pressured to do something like that always sent my son backwards), and not worry about the quantity, just let your LO work her mouth and get used to the food. I think the volume and willingness will come with time.
