NGPR: Talk to me about Netflix

Dh and I are thinking about signing up for Netflix.  How exactly does it work?  Do you just pay a monthly fee?  I'm assuming you can sign up on the net.

  • Yep, you can sign up online. You just pay the monthly fee (I think DH set ours up so it withdrew automatically), set up your queue on the website, and start getting movies in the mail. It's pretty sweet, but we recently switched to Blockbuster's similar program, because we can go exchange a mailed-in movie for one in the store any time we want.

  • We have Netflix - and I love it. We pay a monthly fee every month (its only like 10 bucks) and we get two movies at a time. You can get as many a month as you want - as long as you return them fast. They are quick in the mail - like this week we returned one on Wednesday, I got an email Thursday saying they recieved it and we got the next one on our list Friday. You also get a choice of watch online ones - I think its worth the money :)

  • DH and I have Netflix and love it.  Yeah, its a monthly fee (and in my opinion, a pretty reasonable one).  You set up a queue online of movies you want to get, then, based on your plan, they will send you a movie w/ a return envelope.  When you are finished you just drop it in the mail, and within about 2 days you have the next one in your mailbox.  Really easy, and a great selection of movies.

  • We have Netflix and enjoy it.  The new releases take awhile to get to you though because there is always a long wait.  We watch a lot of our movies off of DH's Xbox.  We have the 2 movies out at a time plan.

I think I will sign upf or the free trial with the 8.99 package, which is one movie at a time.  Now, if I want to upgrade this, can I do so at any time?  We might want to upgrade to the two movies at a time plan.

  • Yes, you can upgrade at any time.  This is how we did it.  We quickly realized we wanted two movies out at a time, so we changed to that plan.  I love netflix!!

  • I love the instant watching.  If you have tivo (and i think xbox too) you can steam movies right to your tv and you don't have to wait for them in the mail.  I love it so much!!  we only have the 8.99 package to only take 1 movie out at a time, but its not so bad because we get plenty on the instant streaming.

  • We have done both Blockbuster and Netflix and the big difference is that with Blockbuster you can exchange movies at the store and with Netflix you can get online downloads.  We never wanted to go to the store, so we switched to Netflix.  With the downloads, we were able to get one movie at a time from Netflix vs. 3 with Blockbuster and save some money.

  • We have had Netflix for several years now and love it, we do the three movies at a time (I think it's $19/mo.) We have three queues, my queue, my DH's queue and an "our" queue.  There is a huge selection of movies, and you can go through and rate movies you have seen and Netflix will make "suggestions" based off of your preferences. I have seen lots of really good older movies this way that I wouldn't have otherwise. It is very fast turnover, like a PP said. We also do the Xbox streaming sometimes. It is a great way to watch TV series as well.

  • I love love LOVE Netflix! I love the separate queue's for sure since I am slow with getting my movies watched and DH is bam!bam!bam!

We stream it thorough our Xbox, too. I would pay for that alone, I use it constantly.
