Not.
When I got C out of bed yesterday morning, she had thrown up in her crib. She seemed fine, and had eaten a lot on Wednesday, so I thought that maybe it was just from overeating. She ate and acted pretty normal all day, but then she threw up twice last night at bedtime. We called the pedi who said to just watch her for a bit and we could give her some pedialyte if we were concerned about dehydration. We gave her a little. She seemed fine after an hour or so and we put her down. She went right to sleep.
This morning she threw up again (she nursed when she woke up) so we just did pedialyte after that. We had her 9 month well check this afternoon and the pedi said it's probably just a stomach bug, nothing but pedialyte for 24 hours, then she can nurse for 24 hours and then bland solids.
The nurse did her measurements and took them out to the pedi to look at. After a few minutes, the nurse was back saying that she had to re-do all the measurements. I knew they weren't good because she had only gained 12.5 oz since her 6 month check. Weight and head were still the same on the re-do but she was actually half an inch longer than the first time.
The Dr. didn't seem too concerned and said part of it was probably due to her being sick, but we have to take her in next month for a weight check. It didn't help matters that in the waiting room, another mom looked at her and said "You look like you're the same age as my baby," and when I asked her how old her baby was, she said 4 months. Her eyes bugged out of her head when I told her C was 9. ![]()
Then on the way home, she threw up 4 times. I felt so bad for her. I stopped once and cleaned her up, but it just seemed pointless to keep stopping and cleaning her and we just needed to get home ASAP.
I just feel so bad for her. Now that we're home, she's acting hungry and looking at me like "Why won't you feed me woman?"
You deserve a margarita if you've made it this far. There is no point to this post, other than to get it out to someone. DH won't be home before 10:00 tonight, so I hope that we don't have a repeat of last night.
Re: Ugh, what a fun day we're having.
I'm sorry babs. DS had that same bug last week and he threw up off and on for two days and then was good as new! Let's hope she recovers quickly!
As for her weight gain, some babies are just built differently than others. DS is only in the 5th percentile for weight - he only weighs 18 lb and he's almost 11 months. Don't let it get to you!
I hope you enjoy a margarita or two tonight!
Ugh I'm so sorry. Sick, vomiting babies are the worst. I know it's easy to say and hard to do, but seriously try not to worry about the weight thing. DS was always in the 10th percentile for weight, until his 12 mo. appt, when he dropped to 3rd percentile. At his 15 month, he dropped off the chart... He is a skinny, skinny dude, and until about the last month or two, just really never ate a whole lot at any given time. Something switched in him about a month ago though, because now he'll eat a whole banana, whole container of yogurt and a bowl of cheerios with milk for breakfast!
But when he was younger, when my bff and I would get together, her baby is a month younger than Logan, and he would seriously DEVOUR 2-3 of those plastic Gerber baby food containers (2.5 oz each). I was doing good to get Logan to eat just one. He just never ate a lot. We ended up supplementing his milk with Pediasure/Carnation from 15-months on, and that helped him pack some weight on but he's still small for a 20-month old.
Anyway, the thing to remember is that she IS growing and not staying the same or even losing weight, so that's good. And as long as she follows along her same curve on the chart, it's all fine. And there will be things that will slow the weight gain, like being sick and becoming mobile (starting crawling, walking) because they're expending more calories. And even if she turns out like Logan and falls off the chart once she starts walking, there are things you can do to help her pack in the calories (pediasure, for instance).
I'm sorry you've had a rough day and I hope C starts feeling better soon!
When 3 Became 4
{{hugs}} Sick babies are so hard. I hope she feels better soon.
FWIW on the weight thing, I have the stomach bug and lost 7 pounds in 36 hours. Weighing when they are sick, it's really hard to know how accurate it is. DS measured low at his check up on Monday and he's also been sick. I'm sure your DD will measure a little higher on the charts next month.
Plus, at the 9 month check up is when both of my kids went from 75th percentile to 10 and 20th on weight. Their bodies just changed from big to skinny between 6 and 9 months. Maybe that's the same with your DD.
OH, no! Poor C! And poor you!
Do you need anything (for you or for her?) J's on his way home and I'm more than willing to pick up more Pedialyte or food or whatever. You have the #.

So true! I think that's 6 of us from the gtg now. E seemed better, but just threw up again. It is no fun.
I'm so sorry you had such a bad day and that C is better soon!
Oh no! I hope C gets better.
It is funny...my older dd was always off the charts big. Then came along petite little #2 and she was always 10-20th percentile and I always worried. I have finally started to let go of those worries. Good because she is FOUR! Took long enough, huh?
That sounds really stressful!! I hope your night goes better tonight.
My son is 3-5th percentile for weight. He is around 14 lbs at 6.5 months.
Ugh. That's almost everyone from the GTG. Amazing how quickly this stuff spreads. I hope C starts feeling better soon. Luke has only thrown up once but Joseph has gone several times. And now they both have diarrhea - just a heads up that might be next. Boo.
And ditto pp about the weight. I know you're stressed about it, but I bet she's much better at the next check-in.
I hope C feels better soon! And I hope your DH gets home soon and you don't have to deal with any more messes...
If it makes you feel any better, Will lost weight from his 6 month check to his 9 month check. It really worried me (he also dropped from 75% to 25% in weight at that time). We had to go in for monthly weight checks and he's just gaining slowly now. The dr. isn't worried about that as long as he's gaining something! I think some babies are just skinny...and that's perfectly fine. It's so hard not to worry though.

I'm so sorry C is sick! I know how frustrating and worrying the weight gain situation is; I'm sorry that you have to stress about it. She will be fine though!!
Hope your day gets better!
