pacifier help

my dd turned two in december.  she's been only using a pacifier at naps and nighttime since she was one year old.

i decided to take her pacifier away today and we made a huge production of throwing it away and she was so excited to tell daddy when he gets home.  nap time came and getting her to lay down was easier than i thought, not much of a protest at all.  she normally naps for 3 hours in the afternoon.  after only sleeping for an hour she woke up crying and just wouldn't go back to sleep.  i went in and talked to her for a little while.

how do you get past the pacifier needing phase for nap and nighttime?

Re: pacifier help

  • While we didn't have this issue with a paci, DD had a dependence on a straw sippy cup.  It took about 3 days to break the habit, but once she got through it she was back to her normal routine (napping, eating and happy self).  She might have trouble for a few days, but after that hopefully you'll be paci-free! Hang in there, I know it's tough!

  • I want to get rid of our paci right now.  We only use it for sleeping time, but I am afraid to get rid of it!  He is much quieter with a plug! lol

What are you using instead of a straw sippy cup?

  • thanks for the support... my dd is on day two now and so far, it's not as bad as i thought it would be.  although her napping is not the same as before, i'm still very hopeful it will get back to her wonderful 3 hours a day.

her sleeping at night was great last night and she went down very easily again tonight.  so hopefully, things will get back to normal quickly.
