Austin Babies

How long are babies contagious?

Kate was sick yesterday.  She woke up throwing up so we took her to the pedi.  They gave her some Zofran and had us put her on a pedialyte only diet for a few hours.  She never ran a fever or anything and seems to feel fine yesterday when she wasn't actually puking.  She hasn't thrown up since yesterday morning at 10:00.

So how long is she contagious for?  We go crazy sitting at home...  Can I take her out this afternoon?  Tomorrow?  I guess we are going to miss the GTG.  I don't want to get anyone else sick.  :(

  • With this stomach virus going around, I heard you are still contagious for 48 hours from the time symptoms disappear.

  • I would wait at least 24 hours to take her around other kids. DD's daycare has a stomach virus going around and parents have been bringing kids in after the symptoms stop but they're still contagious. 21 kids and teachers have come down with the virus and some of them more than once.

I don't know that walking her around the neighborhood or something like that would be a problem though.

That sucks.  I'm glad I asked though.  I would have assumed that she was contagious before symptoms, but fine after.  Whoops.
