Extended rear-facing advocates, be proud

My brother told me that he recently turned his *tiny* 13 month old around.  His doctor told them to turn her when her legs seemed too long.  I told him that I kept DD rear-facing until 18 months and will likely keep another child rear-facing longer than that.  (Depending on weight/height, of course).  I explained to him what I've learned (here!) about the advantages of extended rear-facing.  He really had no idea.  He immediately went out and turned the seat back around.  Now, that's saying something if my brother follows someone else's suggestion!

  • I told a nurse at my doctors office when ask about car seats at DD's 2 year appointment that DD was still rear facing, the nurse looked upset and ask if that was safe.  I assured her it was, but I don't think she quite believed me.

  • My 3 1/2 year old DD is STILL RF!  She is small (20% for weight and height).  My ILS ridicule me everytime they see her carseat.  My FIL told me she should have turned her forward at six months old.  They are idiots!
  • When I commented that DS had a hard time on one of our trips home (2.5 hour drive) as it was RIGHT AFTER nap time she said 'Maybe if you turn his seat around he'd be happier'. I shut that down with a 'No, we'll just make sure we leave during nap time so my active toddler is not confined after being fully rested'.

Her comment 'Oh, that could work too'.

Love my mom, just not going to do all things the way she did them.
