crying during bedtime routine

We recently Feberized DD because she went from going to bed willingly to fighting sleep. After talking to the pedi and taking some advice from Nesties, DH and I read the book and it worked wonders -- she now goes right to sleep when we put her down.  My only problem is that DD cries during the bedtime routine -- actually just the last part, singing.  (And no cracks about my singing being the cause!!!)  It's great that she figured out our bedtime routine because that is the goal, right?  We want her to know that bedtime is coming.  It is just so sad to hear her cry every night.  I thought that it would stop, but it has gone on for a couple weeks.  I think there was a part about this in the book, but I loaned my book to a friend (who has a 4 month old) while they are on vacation and don't want to call her to look it up.  Anyone experience this?  Tell me it doesn't last long, please!!  TIA!

Re: crying during bedtime routine

  • Sometimes DS will cry during his bedtime routine, but I have taken that as he is tired and is ready for the routine to be over. Usually when he does this I stop reading the book and give him kisses and put him in his crib and I dont hear a peep.

I hadn't thought of that. Thank you so much! I'll try that tomorrow night.
  • DS used to do that because he was tired.  I think all the fussing with the after bath lotion, diapering, dressing, etc. really annoyed him.  He just wanted comfort at the point.
  • I think it is just a matter of timing.  J cries if he is too tired (usually accompanied by arching his back) and he just wants to be put down.  Recently, he was crying a LOT once I took him from the bathroom after his bath to his room to start the singing/rocking part, and I think it was because he was not tired enough and wasn't ready for bed.  So, we have tried to hold off a little on his bath unless he seems super tired.  Last night was the first night we really did that and it seemed to work like a charm.  As soon as I sat with him and nursed him a little, he passed out in my lap and even though he woke a little when I moved him to the crib, he just rolled over and pulled his blanket over his head.  Good luck tonight!
