Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Not really smiling at 7 weeks...

DD smiles in her sleep but doesn't smile at the sound of my voice...I am a little nervous because I thought that they were supposed to be doing this at around 6 weeks and DD is 7.5 weeks now.  She does "talk" to me and has met some of the other milestones (notices hands, good head control) but not this one.  She was 2.5 weeks early, so I am hoping that maybe it will pick up in the next week or so, but can someone ease my mind? Thanks.

Re: Not really smiling at 7 weeks...

  • Gosh, no. The average for man babies is more like 8 weeks. DD had her first real smile at 8 weeks. DS is starting to smile and he's 2 months next week. Don't worry.

Edit: lol, that would be MANY babies, not MAN babies ;)

  • DD started smiling right before she started day care at 8 weeks...so she was probably around 7 weeks old. I wouldnt worry!

Our first smile was at 7.5 weeks and it wasn't until 8+ weeks that he was really getting into it.  It's not like he smiles all the time now either.  Your LO is right on track and will be melting your heart (even more than now) in no time!

  • My son just started really smiling last week at 9 weeks, so don't worry!
  • My LO is 9 weeks and only just started smiling - and he rarely does it. Usually first thing in the morning after he's eaten he'll "talk" a little and flash a smile or two and that's it.
  • My DS will be 2 months tomorrow and still doesn't smile at me. DH swears he's smiled at him but I haven't seen it.  He doesn't talk at me either yet unless it's to cry at me.  I wouldn't worry.
  • Same here.  DS is 10 weeks tomorrow and doesn't consistently smile.  He's happier in the morning and more likely to do it then.  And he still hasn't noticed his hands.  So I wouldn't worry.
  • DD still doesn't smile.?
