OMG could it be???

Drew isn't crying. He is awake, and not crying. In fact since about 8 hours after starting the new formula he has been an angel. He is awake, happy, looking around. Last night he woke up at 11, 2 and 6 and went right back to bed and didn't cry all night long.

We will start Prevacid tomorrow......has anyone tried it before? Did it work well? Zantac worked for both the girls so whenever had this issue.

  • YAY for you and baby Drew. Seems like Mommy knew what she was doing afterall:)
  • That's awesome! I probably wouldn't start the prevacid. If he's happy, maybe it was just the soy all along? Way to go momma!

He definitely has AWFUL acid reflux and needs something. But I think whoever mentioned the MSPI was right, the more I read about it it seems just like him. Eliminating the soy has made a huge difference in his happiness, although we can still hear and see him struggling with the reflux.

  • That's great!  I must have missed a post about changing formula?  What did you put him on?

We did Prevacid with both boys.  The Zantac wasn't strong enough.  It worked wonders.  It's a bit of a PITA since it was a solutab instead of a liquid, but that wasn't a huge deal.

Here is my C&P from yesterday:

First of all I really just want to thank everyone for the kind words and advice last night, I really appreciate it.

So his appointment went OK. He has reflux which we already knew - he weighs 8lbs3oz now so we were able to up his Zantac dose, but if we are not seeing an improvement by Friday they are going to start him on Prilosec.  If that doesn't seem to work they will do a swallow study.

She also thinks he has colic which is why he is crying and while I LOVE our pedi, I just am not going with her here. I agree he may have colic, but after reading a lot of your replies last night I think his major issue is the soy formula. It is making him SO constipated (and she still wants him getting 1oz of prune juice a day)  and I think he may be having issues with it even though they did not find blood in his diaper. So I asked about Alimentum and she doesn't think it would work. She wanted him to stay on the soy and get his reflux under control.

MH and I talked when I got home and we both decided he is coming off the soy. It is causing his constipation, plus we think it may be the problem. So I went and bought some Allimentum -  I hate that I am going against what she said, but she isn't with him 24 hours a day. I just hope this works.

So that's the update for now. And thank you again for all the kind words, it really meant a lot.

  • Yay!!!  Mommy really does (usually) know best.  So glad Drew is doing so much better.

He may not even have reflux.  My little girl had terrible 'reflux' every time I slipped up on my diet.

    I'm happy he's doing better.

  • Glad the Alimentum seems to be working.  We "went against" our pediatrician with DS2's issues, too.  I felt a bit guilty since he's the professional, but we're the parents and when it really comes down to it, we know best most of the time.

That's how we felt. She saw him for all of 15 minutes, where as we see him 24/7. And after seeing what a difference 24 hours has made, I am glad we did.

  • I really really REALLY hope this is the answer but feel I have to forewarn you before you get your hopes up too high....this is what is called "the honeymoon period."

Every single time we tried something new with Cam, it worked.  For about 4 days.  Then it went to shitagain.  The pedi told me it's so common....you make a change, baby reacts positively, then acclimates and it's back to square one.

We tried a bunch of different formulas, meds, combos of both for Cam and every time, I would get my hopes up and every time, it went toshit.

It wasn't until 8 months old that it basically adjusted itself.  There were things that helped, for sure, but nothing changed her entirely ....other than time.
