probably a stupid ?..pre-making bottles

LO is eating anywhere between 2.5-3 oz's of formula at a time. I know for every 2 ounces you add 1 scoop of formula. Right now I'm making the whole 4 oz's. Could I pre-mix a larger batch and keep it in the fridge and use only 3 oz's instead of tossing the last ounce everytime??....probably common sense but I haven't slept in 3 days. TIA :)

Re: probably a stupid ?..pre-making bottles

  • Why not just make 3 oz?

  • That's what I do..I mix a batch and pour the amount I want into a few bottles and keep in the fridge. They are never there for more than a day, so they should be fine.

  • Yes but you have to use the whole thing within 24 hours if refrigerated (1 hour at room temp).

  • Get a Dr.Browns formula mixing pitcher you can make a batch of formula and keep it in the fridge and just pour what you use. I think it goes up to 36 oz.

  • Yes. Refrigerated formula is good for 24 hours. Some ladies say to use half a scoop to make one ounce but I never do...I'm afriad I'm not measuring it exactly.

I thought it was 2 hours at room temp.
  • We measured half scoops and did 1.5 scoops for 3 oz. The amount it will be off is so minimal that it won't affect LO.

You can definitely pre-mix bottles. We didn't have a pitcher. We pre-mixed 4 bottles at a time. THat way we could make sure they didn't go bad (only good for 24 hours) but we didn't have to mix them every time.

Now it's just easier to make each bottle when he eats. He's also not screaming bloody murder when he's hungry. He sees you making the bottle and he knows food is coming. He's very patient.

  • Yes you can make formula ahead and keep it in the fridge.  Once you mix the powder with the water it can be kept up to 24 hours in the fridge.  If you don't want to over make your bottle you can use 3 ounces of water and 1 and 1/2 scoops of powder.

Since we started daycare I use a Dr Brown's formula pitcher and I make the next days worth of formula each evening.

Yup. Two hours at room temperature. One hour after baby starts drinking out of it.

  • I premake formula using a shaker thingie from GNC.  It's orginal use is for protein shakes.
