Austin Babies

when did you go on your first date night...

after your kiddo was born?

dh just got us tickets to see conan obrien when he comes to austin in may! we are excited but also know that there is a chance we might have to cancel. if our little one comes out on time (which i know next to never happens) she will be 5-6 weeks old when the show is happening. we would only be gone for a few hours and i know my parents or dh's parents would GLADLY watch her for those short few hours.

are we crazy (relatively speaking, of course... haha) for buying these and trying to plan a date night for a few hours at this time? (again, we know full well that there is always a chance that we will have to cancel cos you can never really plan...)

Re: when did you go on your first date night...

  • We went out to a quick dinner when she was 2 weeks old while my mom stayed at the house with her. I don't think we went out-out until Christmas party around 3 months? How long do you think you'd have to be gone? I think by 6 weeks you'd be fine with a couple of hours at least...

  • we would literally just be going to the show - no dinner. so i would imagine 2-3 hours tops.
  • Our first date night was Feb 18 - almost 6 months old.

    Sad, huh?

  • We're going to a company party next week at 7 weeks,  I think you'll be ok.  If you're planning on BF then  you'll have a few weeks to practice pumping and giving a bottle

  • I think DD was around 8 or 9 mos, but it was during the day. Nighttime was only recently, maybe the past 6 mos or so. We chose to do things we could bring her with too, but our lifestyle has tended in that direction for a long time. IOW, DH doesn't like going out in the evening. ;)
  • We agreed before he was born that we'd leave him when he was a month old. It was REALLY hard for me, but in the end, I'm really glad I did. We saw a movie and he stayed with my parents. They loved the time and even though I was nervous to leave him, it was great for DH and I to get away and feel like adults for a few hours and my parents looooooved getting to spend some time with their grandson. You're not crazy at all - I'd totally go. You will have a blast and you'll be so excited to get back and see your baby :)
  • I think we went out when DS was 3 or 4 weeks. The only thing that kept us from going out more was that I was so dang tired. It stressed me out to be out too late because all I could think about was the sleep I was missing.

  • With our first we went out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary when DD was about 6 weeks old.  We were gone about 2hrs and it was hard for me!!! But it was worth it because I had a good time and it meant soooo much to DH to have that time alone (and me too of course, I just meant that he seemed to need to the time alone more than I did, or at least thought I did.)

With DS we haven't been out yet but we will next week when we're visiting my family in upstate NY and I can't wait!!!  Since DS isn't a fan of the bottle we didn't want to leave him alone at night earlier... but now he can go longer periods without nursing and he likes rice cereal with BM pretty well...

  • we went out at 3wks w/all 3 of our kids. it was also the 1st time we intro'd a bottle to all of them and my parents were excited to be the first bottle giver to all 3. I almost exclusively BF, but they all got/get some bottled BM at least 1x/week for a mommy break.?
  • We just had our first date night on Monday since LO has come into the world.  Six months!
