Do your kids call your friends by their first names or do you have them say "Mr. Smith" or "Mrs. Smith?"
As a child, I never called my parents' friends by their first name and was always taught that it was a sign of respect. But, right now, Quinn calls my friends by their first name, or "Miss Kim" or "Mr. Dave" like they do at his daycare. Most of my friend's kids call me by my first name too.
This topic has come up in several conversations lately and I'm curious what you guys do.
Re: What do your kids call your friends?
First names unless otherwise specified. Growing up, it depended on the parents. My parents always wanted to be called by their first names by my friends, mainly b/c they were always over my house and my mom was a room mother and everyone knew her, so she was comfortable with them. My BFFs dad always liked to be called Mr. XXXXX so i did, but her mom (they were divorced) wanted to be called by her first name.
I will have my kids friends call me by my first name.
Even though I was born in the US, my family is from Chile and it is customary to call all adults Tio or Tia and that's how I grew up. They even call their teachers "Tia" which I still find odd when I visit.
Anyways, my kids mostly use Tio/Tia paired w/ first names.
My kids call my friends Ms. Kelly, etc...
For closer friends my kids call Tia___ whatever their name is. And one friend I have my kids call her Chica.. Just because when they were really little I always answered the phone "hey Chica"... So it stuck.
Not sure if this is prevalent in most hispanic homes, but we never called other adults Mr and Mrs; we used their first names. I remember in high school my friend's mom came to school to pick her up and by mistake ended up in one of my classes...I called out to her, by her first name and let her know where my friend was. The teacher just about had a heart attack when he heard me call her by her first name and asked me about it after she left lol. Growing up in Hialeah, most of my friends were hispanic - I think just one of my friends had a Cuban mom and American dad, but I only saw them a handful of times - I'm sure I called her dad Mr. S or whatever the other kids called him.
In any case, I'll teach DS to call my friends and their spouses by their first name...
Growing up, I called all my friends' parents by their first name. All the kids in our circle of friends have been taught to refer to us and the other "parents" by our first names, with some adding a "tio" (uncle) in the mix.
However, I had one friend that I'd call her mom "mommy [last name]" especially since I spent a lot of time at her house. LOL But that was more of an inside joke.

I refer to my very closest friends as "Aunt So-and-so" in front of Nicholas. He doesn't really call any of them anything. Random acquaintances I just refer to as "John's mommy".
Sebastian calls them all by their names, that's how they want it to be and I liked to be called Virginia not Miss Virginia.
The kids at Sebastian's school call me Mrs H (my last name) and I think it's the cutest thing.
I always called my parents close friends by their name but my friends parents were always Mr & Mrs, even if they insisted I call them by the first name!
We refer to our close friends as tio and tia so and so...all others simply by their first name. My friend has her kids call me Ms. Melly - its cute and respectful but NMS.
This! I don't want to be Mrs. ____ in my personal life, too. I always called my friends' parents and my parents' friends by their first name and it was no big deal. I'll probably have my kids call my closest friends aunt/uncle if they see them often enough.
