Birthday question

This may be a dumb question, but for birthdays, do you get each child their own cake?  My mom keeps telling me they each need their own cake and we need to sing happy birthday twice, once for each child.  Just curious!

Re: Birthday question

  • I was planning on having them their own cake when the time comes! :)  In regards to singing happy birthday twice I haven't thought much on it, but I think it would only be right for them to each get the spotlight seperatley, but that's just IMO. :)

Curious to see what other MoM's do :)

  • for their first birthday I think I'm going to have cupcakes and each kid will have their own cupcake with a candle.  But moving forward we might have two cakes.

  • I'm making one for each of them. I wouldn't want to share my cake and I don't think they should have to either.

These are just smash cakes though. We'll be serving cupcakes to all.

  • We will be having 1 big cake for guests and then a cake for each of the babies to make a disaster of!

  • I plan to give one cake for each and sing the song twice.  I think twins get called "the twins" so often, that every chance for some individuality is good.

  • i was thinking of getting the girls their own huge cupcakes to mess with and then have regular cupcakes for the rest of the kids there and any adults who want any.  And I guess it will be a double sing along.  My niece will be happy about it.  She'll probably want to blow out the candles also.

  • We had one large sheet cake for all the guests, and each twin got their own little cake to smash. We also sang to them separately. I feel strongly about letting each child have their little moment in the spotlight :)
  • We had two cakes at their first birthday but we had a lot of peole to feed so it made sense.  At their second birthday party we kept with the two cakes but they both wanted the same decoration on it so I ordered one yellow and one chocolate with different fillings inside.  By the third birthday Andrew wanted a Batman party and Nicholas wanted Star Wars.  So we had two different themed cakes, balloons and birthday banners.  This was the first year we sang Happy Birthday twice and they seemed to really enjoy it.

  • We've done cupcakes for both of the boys' birthday parties so far, but if/when we have real cakes, I'll probably have three.

We definitely sang three times at their 2nd birthday. They're three kids!

  • I am planning on having two little cakes for them to smash (one for each)  I will have a regular cake or cupcakes for the guests.  And we will probably sing for each of them.  I think this year it won't matter as much but definitely by next year I think it will.

Side note: my family has a Yahoo group and that is how we communicate instead of emailing and reply all.  It was my aunt and uncle's birthday yesterday (they are twins) and everyone was sending one message saying happy birthday to both.  I sent two separate messages (one each) saying that it is important for them to be individuals.  they were cracking up.  they are in their 50's!
