Ideas for Non-Refrigerated Lunches on the Go?

DS and I have a 1pm dr's appt and I have some errands I could get done before that. But DS eats lunch around noon and I am having a hard time of thinking of lunches that are good and portable without having to stop somewhere on the run. I probably should get a small cooler...I wish he ate peanut butter (we haven't tried it yet)  b/c all I can think of is a PBJ.

  • As long as it isn't super hot where you are a lot of things should be fine unrefridgerated for a few hours.  For example bread with cream cheese, some sliced up veggies, string cheese.  And I think they make this frozen yogurt with is timed to defrost by lunch time so it won't spoil.

  • I just toss an ice pack into her lunch bag when we are out and about. Otherwise we just stop for nuggets at wendys--you get a fruit cup and milke too!

  • If you don't have a cooler or ice packs, you can always just throw a baggie full of ice in with whatever you want to keep cold.  That will do the trick for a few hours!  Cheese stick, crackers, rice cakes, banana, etc are all easy snacky-lunches to have on hand.
  • I agree - as long as it's not hot out any food should be fine. I usually make a grilled cheese or quesadilla at home and wrap it in foil plus a yogurt and some fruit. I've also done bread with cream cheese and a ltitle jam.
