If you had your son circ'd

Can you tell me anything about it?  How did it go?  Any tips for cleaning and care? Anything I should know that they don't tend to tell you?

Thanks!

Re: If you had your son circ'd

  • The biggest thing we had to do was just keep vasoline on it when we changed his diapers, and keep it clean.  That was really it.

  • Lots of vaseline.

Once it's healed a bit, gently pull back any loose skin to prevent adhesions.

And not circ related, but it will save you a lot of laundry--- make sure the weenie is pointed south, into the diaper, or he will pee right out the top.

  • They gave us pretty dummy-proof care instructions.  He's had no problems, but we do have to make sure we keep it cleaned out at bath time.

  • I held his hand and watched the whole thing, what do you want to know? LOL

It was fine, had some minor sticking after (adhesions) we were told to peel the skin back once a day & keep smearing the vaseline.  After care is just gauze pads & vaseline so it doesn't stick to the diapers.

Keep a washcloth or cloth diaper nearby for all diaper changes so you can cover up the firehose.  Trust me on this.

  • I had my son circ'd and then RE-circ'd 7 months later.  The only advice I can give you is that you can have a trained urologist or pediatrician do the circ. at the hospital before you & your son are discharged as opposed to having the OB doing it.  The OB that circ'd my son at the hospital messed up and didn't take off enough skin, so he had to be put under and redone at 7 months which was terrible.

Keeping it clean is easy, the aftercare is really minimal and the nurses will explain all of that to you.

    GL!

I had no idea how true this is.  Nor did I have any clue how far and fast a newborn could pee.  It's a little amazing.

  • I didn't go back with him for it. We had a horrible experience in that the gauze stuck after they did it, so he wailed when he had his first change afterward. The nurse felt awful about it.

LOTS of vasoline. Get some now (I liked the kind in a tube), and extra gauze pads, I think I had 2" ones. Change frequently, keep the area clean.

And yes, be quick with the changes or the pee will get everywhere.

  • I had person after person at the hospital tell me to NOT pull it back to clean. You have too.  once it's no longer sore for him, pull the skin back gently and clean around the lip of the head.  DS1's re-adhered and it was horrible...almost had to have it redone...which I was just beyond pissed about.  So, pull it gently to keep it from adhering, and wipe the white cheesy stuff off.

And ditto on pointing it down while diapering.

  •  I only used the instructions that they gave me with the vaseline. She told me to put it on after each changing like you were putting whip cream on a sunday. I never pulled anything out or cleaned under anything. It healed great.
  • We had it done by a mohel for both kids at 1 week old. We requested numbing cream. It took about 1 minute and there was minimal crying. Went great. As everyone else said LOTS of Vaseline. Tube is easiest and gently pull it back until completely healed - probably a week or so.
