I know I'm so early and we didn't have a name picked out last time until I was like 7 months along.
However, I've fallen in love with Brooke for a girl. Now i'm seeing it everywhere! It's so funny. Maybe I never noticed it before and now I'm paying attention. I know its not super popular, which is important to me (no offense meant to anyone, just my thing). So, I'm thinking I've just started noticing the name a lot.
Not that this is the name we will use if we have a girl b/c marc will not even talk about names until we know if its a girl or boy. It's just my choice.
Re: Speaking of girls names...
I agree with you on not wanting a super popular name. It's just nms. I actually love Brooke and it's my front runner for my next girl's middle name (yeah, we've got a potential girl's name already and not even ttc).
I haven't heard it around too much so hopefully it won't make too much of a comeback and you'll still want to use the name.
Brooke is very pretty and I think goes well w/ your last name. And like you said isn't very popular, which i agree is a big factor.
Now, it's NMS... only b/c of the Cuban heritage, and I think doesn't sound right w/ latin last name.

That's a great name! I don't really want to discuss names until I'm out of the first tri, but DH brought it up recently because we had mentioned a few names we liked a loooong time ago. I actually have a lot of girl names picked out, but we're lost on the boy names.
I like Brooke! I also really like how it sounds with your last name. It flows nicely.
My last name is more difficult to match with first names, taking into consideration that most people are not sure how to pronounce it on their first reading.
As far as name popularity goes, I don't mind if the name is popular on the 100 most popular baby name list as long as no one in my family or close group of friends has used the name. We aren't even PG yet but DH and I have already thrown around a lot of names we like and some are pretty popular. The killer for me is "No, we can't use that name because so and so named their kid that." I'd like to be unique in that sense, at least.
Brooke is really pretty and I think it goes well with Alexis. You may be starting a theme, though! If you have a 3rd, you may have to figure out a "C" name that you like
Emma is one of the most popular girl names nationally, but I haven't heard it that much in Miami. I hope she'll be the only Emma in her class or at least one of two, versus names like Sofia/Sophia, Isabella, Mia, etc., which I've been hearing a LOT lately in Miami. But I have nothing against common names. My brother and I both have super common names and so does DH, and it's never bothered me.
I think it's a beautiful name! And it goes great with Alexis. What about boy names?
