I'm very sick of my sinuses and I finally bought the Neti Pot based off of many of your positive experiences. I used it Sunday night and last night and havent really noticed a difference. So I'm wondering, do you all use it many times in a row, or a couple times a day for a few days etc, before you notice a difference? Or does it work after one use for you?
Re: Neti Pot users
I use Neil Med Sinus Rinse https://www.neilmed.com/usa/sinusrinse.php and i have had instant relief. It takes some time getting used to it. The best effect is when u take it in from one nostril and leave it out from the other or out from your mouth(gross but it works)Thats a true rinse!!
P.S. I had a severe sinus infection couple of years back and the ENT recommended one of these. Within the first two uses I dislodged a huge mucus block at the back of my nose/throat.
agree with this!! If you have a blocked nose due dont force it.
I think it probably depends on your symptoms but I have had it help with both a runny nose and a stuffed up one. Mine uses one packet of saline mix per 1 cup of water, so when I first started it, until I got more used to it, I only did 1/4 cup in each side and did that 2x a day (morning and night, not in a row) to use up the whole cup of water/mix.
Not sure how much info you are looking for, so here is my usual routine (sorry if it's gross). I've never poured it from one nostril into my mouth - I think I read that you shouldn't do that actually since if you have germs or infection in your nostril you're just introducing it into your throat and mouth. So, get ready to pour from one nostril through the other and have a tissue handy. Tilt your head jsut so to pour in one nostril and have it flow out the other; ideally you get to a point where it flows freely and doesn't trickle or anything. Let the water drain from both nostrils, then gently blow your nose to get excess water or debris out. Do not blow forcefully and also do not occlude either nostril. Repeat by pouring from one nostril into the other; blow gently again. Oh yes and I used filtered water warmed in the microwave as I found that more comfortable.
Relief I tend to feel immediately is that it moisturizes my sinuses if they are dry and reduces and soothes swelling if there is any. If my nose was a little runny, it clears that out so I won't have my nose running for a while. If I was stuffed up, it clear my sinuses out some so I can breathe more freely. Also should add that once I got more used to it, if I was really having sinus problems I would use it twice a day (like the full cup twice a day) in the morning and again at night.
