Ordering Sympathy Flowers...

I have to order some sympathy flowers for a coworker. Where should I search? And do you prefer flowers for this kind of thing or a plant? I prefer a plant, but manager wants flowers... Thoughts?

I would search for flower stores in your area.  I prefer a plant as well, flowers will die in a few days while they can enjoy the plant longer and think of their loved one when they see it.

I would prefer a plant but even more than that, I would prefer a happy manager so I would just order the flowers, since it is no skin off my nose.

For birthdays, mother's day, etc, I've had good luck with both 1-800 Flowers and ProFlowers.com.  But for a sympathy arrangement, I would call a florist out of the yellow pages that is local to where your friend lives or where the funeral home is--they can get something delivered the same day since funerals tend to heppen pretty quickly.

You didn't ask, but when FIL died, the VERY BEST thing anyone did for us was to send a deli tray to the funeral home.  It was put in a private family room and it was great because we were so busy and had such long days that we were't even able to stop for a bite to eat.  The funeral home arranged to send the leftovers home with us so that we had food to offer people who stopped by to give us condolences in the day or two after the funeral.  That was way better than a plant or flowers so that's what I try to send from now on.

A plant, flowers die after about a week and the plant, if taken care of correctly, will live a long time. Its a symbolic time.  Try someplace like 1-800-flowers or if she lives in the same town as you, call any local florist.

 You might not know, but is the person Jewish or not?  The traditions around where to send things are different as Jews have the funeral right away and then sit shiva for 7 days and they don't have a wake beforehand.
