What can I use to clam dd down before bed?

The last month it has been taking me 3 hrs to get dd down for bed.  I have tried bath, book bed.  bath, tv show, book bed nothing works.  For 3 hrs its up and down, up and down with mommy I need something to eat,  Mommy I need a drink, Mommy I cant close my eyes and so on and so on.  I used to do this aswell from her age untill about 6th-7th grade.  Tonight I was tired, my body hurts so I used the little remedies baby rub that I know makes her crash when she has a cold.  I dont want to use this every night (I dont think I can use it nightly) so is there some thing with the same ingredients that I can use nightly.

  • Is it just like Baby Vicks? I'm pretty sure it's just aromatherapy? Baby Vicks is lavender, chamomile and menthol. It's not like you're medicating her.

  • eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary.

I guess I will use it on her.  Its the only thing that seems to be helping her clam down at night and I am tired, stressed and near my wits end at the end of the 3 hrs.

  • actually, those are the same ingredients as Baby Vicks. You can use it every day, it's fine. Like I mentioned, it's really just like aromatherapy vasoline. GL. I totally feel ya on needing them to just go to bed already! Times it by three and you'll know my pain;)

  • Are you giving in to all her requests?  Do you give her something to eat/drink, hold her, etc?  I think before you take her to start your routine, tell her that if she wants a snack/drink, she do it right then.  Then be firm.  My son tried this for a week or so, but I was adamant - he was not getting out of bed for anything.  He gave up quickly.

For the aromatherapy - maybe get her some sort of lavender air freshener or fabreeze spray and spray her bedding.

  • There are bedtime teas. Really, though, the problem is you're giving into her requests. Bedtime should not take 3 hours--start a strict routine, make sure her needs are taken care of before getting in bed (small cup of water, goes to the bathroom, etc), and once she's in bed, she should stay there. As long as you let her continue to treat bedtime like a game, she will do so.

  • The thing is I am not giving in.  I give her a snack before bed and water so I dont give her anything after I have layed her down.  She comes out I put her right back to bed.
