EI - Return to work date?

Just wondering if anyone knows how the return to date works with EI?

I had my baby at the end of June but went out on leave two weeks before.  I got my first EI payment in July.  I thought I would have to go back to work mid-June but looking online, my return to work is dated in August....

Does this make sense?

Re: EI - Return to work date?

  • Sorry, I'm no help. I need to look into this myself, as my original return to work date has changed. I had 2 weeks of vacation at the beginning of my mat leave... or so I thought. I had the baby on vacation day #3. So I'm assuming those days will be carried over and that I can tack them on the end of my mat leave, even though I was already carrying over the maximum allowed. I hope. It's all very confusing.

  • That doesn't make sense to me. What did your company list as your last day of work?
  • My company has June 11th and the gov't has my start date as June 14th.  DD's birthday is June 26th.  And my return to work date is in August...
  • Well that is odd. Hmmmm to question it or not??? Stick out tongue
  • I had the same thing. Left work in Mid-April, but the end date of my claim was like June.

I called and they told me that is because of the new legislation about getting an extra 5 weeks of EI if you were laid off while you were on mat leave. Something about how I have been paying into it since 1995 and I've earned it. Anyway, since I do have a job to go back to, I can't get that extra 5 weeks.

    Hope that helps.
