Re: What kind of question would you ask a Nanny
I would ask about past experiences- how has she handled any issues that have come up, i.e. sleep training. Is she willing to follow your guidelines and adapt to your parenting style? Any cpr training? Any experience with preemies?
It all depends on what you are looking for. Will you want her to do activities with your LO? Or do you just need someone to keep him feed, clean and happy?
1) Do you get sick often? Will you be honest when you are too sick to be at work?
2) What is your experience with children? With babies? With premies?
3) What activities will you do during the day?
4) Are you CPR and First Aid certified?
5) Why do you want to be a nanny?
That is all I can think of that I asked my nanny when I hired her...
Here are the questions we asked. Good luck!
General:
Tell us a little about yourself & background?
Why are you a nanny? What is your favorite part of the job?
What do you find to be the most challenging (or interesting) part of working with children?
What are your pet peeves or least enjoyable areas of being a nanny?
What was your worst experience in childcare and how did you resolve it?
What appeals to you about taking care of children in their own home (vs. a day care center or your home)?
Can you give us some background on how you raised your own kids? Discipline?
Child Rearing Philosophy:
Describe your vision for a typical day with our child. Schedule? Activities?
Were your previous kids on a strict schedule regarding naps & feedings? How flexible were you with alterations?
What do you see as your primary responsibility to a child this age?
What activities did you routinely engage in when you last cared for a baby or toddler?
What would you do when he's sleeping?
How have you typically handled a crying infant?
Do you feel a baby Jake's age can be spoiled?
What are some examples of situations where you would call us for advice or to inform us of something? i.e., when do you think it would be necessary to contact us?
Have you ever had to handle an emergency? If so, what happened and what action did you take?
Have you ever had a disagreement with a parent about child rearing or discipline? How did you handle it?
Logistics:
Do you smoke?
Would you bring your own food or expect meals to be provided?
Are you willing to do basic dog care? Food/water/letting them out?
Would you be willing to work with our developmental therapist?
Do you have any personal responsibilities that would interfere with a basic 8:30 - 5:30 schedule?
Infant CPR certifications?
Are you willing to provide us with personal information (SSN, DOB) for a background check?
