Shower question for GD ladies

What are you doing about eating at your showers? Mine is this Sunday and I know everyone is working really hard to make it special. I feel bad not eating anything. Do you just explain to everyone that you have GD or do you not say anything? Sorry if this is a strange question!

Have you talked to your doc and dietician about having a tiny piece of cake for showers or special occasions? I'm planning to do this on Thursday as it's my bday this weekend and I'd like to cheat a little.

 Otherwise, tell the people hosting now that you have GD, just phrase it in a way like "Hey Aunt Flo, I wasn't sure if you knew I had GD, but I wanted to make sure I told you bc I don't want it to seem like I'm ungrateful when I don't eat some of the yummy things you will be making."
Then maybe offer to bring a fruit tray or somethign you know you can munch on.

I agree that you should talk to the host.  There should be options for you no matter.

Also depending on your numbers of course, my doctor indicated that some high numbers because you eat a piece of cake at a shower is to be expected.  Not that you should go crazy or anything but you shouldn't have to not eat anything at all.

If you don't want anyone to know, you can always claim you have no room because of the baby.

Two of my showers were at restaurants, one for DH's work and one for my work.  We just made sure we told them ahead of time and picked restaurants I could eat at.  The third was a surprise one thrown by DH's aunts and because MIL likes to make me look bad, she didn't tell them ahead of time that I couldn't eat sweets.  I had to sacrifice and eat a peanut butter brownie (it's protein, right?) and my numbers were fine. 

 My advice is to just choose your splurges wisely.

So all of you ladies have splurge days? Honestly since being diagnosed with GD I have not had any where close to a high number so maybe I will just enjoy the treat but not go too crazy! I would looove a tiny piece of cake! YUMM. Thanks ladies!

One of my showers was last week and My mil ordered some special things for me to eat and then she got me the eclair that I wanted.  The doc said it was ok to eat one

 My other shower is this weekend.  The doc says I can cheat at that one too.  I test every other day now, so I am not going to test on sat.  Im not going crazy but I will have one sweet.

 I went to a bridal shower yesterday and ate a piece of chocolate chip cookie and my numbers were great.

When I asked my doctor if I could have a piece of cake at my shower he practically laughed at me (at the time I was diet controlled only).  Although they had cake at my shower I didn't eat any.  I did let my girlfriend know about my GD early on and she made hors d'oeuvres that I could eat.  We had a shower at 2 PM so I had already eaten lunch beforehand.

My mom and friend who threw my shower really wanted me to be able to eat the  things they brought and not feel guilty.  My mom had really yummy chicken salad with bread that was very low in carbs.  They also had low carbs desserts (but I really wanted a cupcake so I had one).  No one was disappointed with the food and it was really good.  GL and have fun.

The host knew about mine, but there were still tons of delicious looking desserts there that I couldn't have.  I actually brought an untouched cake home with me to freeze   While the guests had the desserts, I had strawberries.  It kind of sucked, but I knew I couldn't slip.  The week before I had 2 shots of whipped cream, and it made my sugars go up.  I can't imagine what cake and cannolis would do!
