Wagon VS. Double Stroller

This is the debate DH are having.   I want to get a good double stroller that is all terrain, will be useful for walking/light jogging on our farm, great for trips like camping, zoos, amusement parks, and will be alright for the little bit that I go to a mall with kids (think 2 -3 times a year - tops).  Basically, I'm leaning towards a Baby Jogger City Elite double (expensive, but I'm looking for used).

DH's solution to our growing family?  Get a wagon with rubber wheels.  When I asked where do you put a little baby - he replied: put the carseat in the wagon.

Seriously, am I being unreasonable?   Or, is he out to lunch?   I personally think we should get the stroller and then as a big Christmas gift to all the kids, get them a nice wagon:)

Re: Wagon VS. Double Stroller

  • We have both and have found the double stroller to be more convenient for amusement parks or weekend trips because it's easier to pack.  But for a trip around the block or a day trip to the zoo, the wagon is super nice.  The good thing about the wagon is that it doubles as a changing table in a pinch.

Can you get both?  I've honestly found both to be indispensable for different situations.  If not, I'd go for the stroller simply for its ease of portability. Whenever we go somewhere with the wagon, we can't bring *anything* else.

  • Loading the player...
  • While wagons are fun for around the neighborhood and things like that I would never want to pull on through the entire zoo or anything like that.  Plus I would never even consider putting a newborn in a wagon.  Hit a bump and the carseat falls out or tips over.

I'd go with a double stroller now and get a wagon when the baby gets older

  • I'm thinking both would be a fabulous compromise!      I want the double stroller first, though:)    That way I can be more mobile with my new baby this summer.
  • We have both.   Big no on the wagon.  He may enjoy pulling a small tank behind him, but you won't.  Tell him to put 50 pounds of something in it and go for a 3 mile walk.  If he complains for even an instant about being sore, you get your baby jogger.

LOL!    That's funny!   I'll tell him that - I don't think he'll even try - baby jogger it is!!!

So expensive, though - I'm having a hard time finding used ones:(

  • You could find it last week for $400.  Not sure if there are any of those left though.  REI sells them and usually has a 20% off coupon with their dividend.  That is coming at the end of March.

There  are a few classic's around for $400.  There is not much difference, except the styling.

  • Thanks!  I keep looking!   $400 looks better than $900.   Up here, I'm seeing the City Elite in stores for close to $1000CND new.

    this!

last summer, I got the wise idea to walk a mile to a playground with dc.... not realizing dh had the double stroller. I get downstairs, they are pumped to go.... no double stroller.  I think, ey, I'll use the wagon. What a PITA! it was very difficult with two babies equalling over 50lb.  I've walked a mile to the grocery with it....  I prefer to use the double stroller.  even if it means carrying some bags.
